Meet Patty Nash of Patty Nash Photography

Today we’d like to introduce you to Patty Nash.

Patty, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I have been a photographer for the last 14 years, but photography has been a passion of mine since high school.

I got serious about photography after my first son was born and decided to go back to school and becoming a professional photographer, full-time. The business started with just me and then it grew, involving my husband, who also decided to go back to school for photography. Then we added a couple of assistants and second shooters.

Then, one day a good friend made us realized that the path we were taking might not have been the one we wanted to end up with.

We downsized and went back to only the two of us and a couple of freelancers/second shooters. This has given us flexibility and ability to explore more with our business and at the same time maintain the clean look of our images while proving the great service and experience we strive for.

Today, every assignment is cover and edited by us. We meet our clients and communicate with them directly. We feel it is a good match for our business and we have grown from having great clients to enjoying some awesome friends, and that is priceless!

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
We faced a few challenges along the way. Starting a business from 0 is a huge challenge in itself.

After my first, second year in business, I had back surgery and that kept me from picking up a camera for 6 months. A really tough time after I had put so much effort into my new business…

We have to expand our home office three times. Then we had to empty an offsite small office in a week’s notice and place everything in storage, ha! We have learned from struggles, those are lessons and made us stronger and wiser.

The biggest challenge, I believe in every business, is to make 100% of your clients 100% happy each and every time. And we will strive for it each time 105%

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Patty Nash Photography – what should we know?
We are a boutique photography studio. We specialize in photographing people, their milestones, life events and celebrations. We customize for our clients and sometimes create new products for them.

Some years ago, a fellow photographer friend told me that my images deserved to be in an international/recognized magazine and I was awed by his compliment. And then one of your dear clients text us one of our photos (without photo credit) and the message was “this is your photo right?” The fact that our images can be recognized by their simplicity and timeless style by one of our clients is AMAZING!

What set us apart is US! We are who serve, photograph, edit and deliver each product for our clients. We are the ones who build each relationship and earn the trust. It is all about Us!

Nowadays, we travel with our clients and we are loving it! Being able to combine photography and traveling has been my dream from day one and it is now happening.

Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
While attending The Art Institute of Fort Lauderdale I was fortunate to enjoy a great professor who was both very challenging and caring; Don Scheffield.

I followed photographers like Sandy Puc’ and Vicky from VGallery. Their giving and caring souls helped me grow and expand my business.

Then, I got very inspired by Any Leibowitz and all her effortless images. I mean, how could you not!

I loved the team of Yervant and Anie Zanazanian, attending their workshops have been life and business changing experiences. Giving with the heart is Anie’s motto and I learned it is possible, because: why not!?

Nowadays, I keep going back to Sue Bryce, this woman is inspiring, limitless, extremely creative and resourceful and her energy is positive, giving and caring. I created a new product based on everything I have learned from her: Gorgeous Portraits. Sue is an amazing and solid mentor!

My biggest supporters are my husband Gene and my mom, of course. 😉
