Today we’d like to introduce you to Patrick Daly.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Patrick. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
After graduating from college, I spent 15 years running some of the largest home healthcare companies in the country. I got some really great experience doing that. But then, in my thirties, I lost my in-laws. It was a hard time for my family and me. What made it worse was that the home health care service we used before they passed, left my wife and me wanting more.
Having worked in the home care industry, it was a hard pill to swallow to be disappointed like that. I found it difficult — trying to explain to my wife and her sisters how hard it is to find the right caregiver. As opposed to offering them a solution to their problem, it felt like I was making an already difficult time even worse. The services provided were fragmented and there was a lack of communication and transparency into who was coming to their home.
I loved working in the home care industry because I loved helping people. I wanted to keep doing that, but my own personal experience with the home care industry made me take a step back. I felt like there had to be a better way. I wanted to keep taking care of people — I loved that — but I wanted to do that in a different, and a better way. One that was easier for the patient and the caregiver.
I explored how to run a more efficient operation, which progressive technologies to invest in, and how to send the right caregiver to the right client. I thought these were the cornerstones of offering a better home care service. After my personal experience, you could say I was extremely motivated to find a better way for other people.
We’re always improving at Sonas, but I believe we’re offering a better home care experience than the service I received. And I’m proud of that.
Has it been a smooth road?
As we’ve started placing caregivers with new clients in new cities, we’ve learned how different each city is. Not only that, but also how different each person is.
There’s a personal touch that’s required for each client and caregiver. So, figuring out how to deliver that was a challenge. I have a deep-rooted respect for how local and individual this work is when it’s done well. And from my own experience, I knew there was no other option but to do it well. So, I’d say it was an important challenge to overcome.
We overcame this obstacle by following through on our mission, by investing in the right technologies to be more efficient, and by believing in the power of taking care of people. Those things have been important from the start and continue to help us solve big-time problems.
We’d love to hear more about your business.
Simply put, I run a company that provides home health care services. What does that mean to me? At the end of the day, we inspire every life we touch to be lived to the fullest.
What do you specialize in?
More and more people who need care want to live in the comfort of their home instead of the hospital, which I completely understand. After all, that’s why we chose home care for my in-laws. And based on that experience, I knew it would be helpful if we specialized in being a one-stop resource for all the home care needs someone might have. So we did.
That means several things to me.
First, we match our clients with the perfect caregiver for their individual needs. This is really important in building a positive relationship between the caregiver and the client.
Second, we provide a wide range of home care services, including:
● Pediatric care
● Skilled nursing care
● Alzheimer’s and dementia care
● End of life care
● Personal care
● Companion care
● Respite care
● Live-in caregiver
And third, it means we have the ability to help more people with a wide range of needs, from pediatric care to people who want to age comfortably.
What are you known for?
We’re probably most known for our mission to bring love, light, and laughter into the communities we serve. We truly believe in this. It drives us every day. People underestimate this kind of work. When you do this with the spirit of our mission, taking care of people goes smoothly.
What are you most proud of as a company?
It’s been extremely rewarding to see the vision come together. We have a team of passionate people who believe in our mission, and I’m extremely proud to work at a company that takes care of people with dignity and offers a home care experience I’d want to use. These are very difficult choices for families, and most of them don’t know where to turn for help. Having a simple and seamless option that feels like an extension of your own family is a great feeling.
What sets you apart from others?
We try to make a difference in every life we touch by helping people live their best lives. This includes people we care for and people who work for us.
We offer a wide range of home care services, which provides a lot of benefits to not just families, but the caregivers too.
Our caregivers come to us and stay with us because they are the most important part of what we offer our communities. As a result of our efficiencies and investments in technology, we offer a simple way to join our team, find work, highly competitive pay, and even benefits like insurance, and paid time off.
We’re positioned as a destination for a caregiver to find ample work and feel recognized for the work they provide. I think that helps set us apart from others.
Who else deserves credit?
We couldn’t help our clients live their best lives without our amazing caregivers. They’re the heart — the bloodline — of our business. We do everything we can to support them.
Any mentors?
One of my first bosses, the Chief People Officer at Bayada, helped me be a better leader. Through challenging me to grow interpersonally and not just professionally, she helped to understand how valuable the people we hire and surround ourselves with, truly are. She helped me recognize the value of how much it means to inspire others to grow. She taught me that it’s okay to fail. And that you should be courageous and think differently.
Those were and continue to be meaningful lessons for me. They help guide how I approach my daily life and how I lead Sonas.
Is our city a good place to do what you do?
Miami and the additional Florida communities we serve are great places to start and run a business. Like I said, I have a deep-rooted respect for how different each city is. It challenges us to individualize the level of care we provide to our clients and also our caregivers. That’s vital to our success in bringing light, love, and laughter into the communities we serve.
Something I’ve realized about this business is how important it is to have good, caring people to count on to help take care of clients. We’ve found Miami and the additional Florida communities we serve to have plenty of good people, and we’re always looking for more.
