Meet Patricia Desamours of Patricia’s Canvas

Today we’d like to introduce you to Patricia’s Canvas.

Patricia, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Growing up in Montreal, Canada from Caribbean parents really made me a free spirit. I’ve been embracing my artistic side ever since I can remember through dance, drawing and writing. I remember doing makeup on myself and friends for dance performances and being glad I had received that base from home. I took notes from the women in my life who made getting dolled up look like a piece of cake. It really set a standard for me on how a woman should keep up with herself on a daily basis.

Makeup holds a special place in my heart but it wasn’t until college that my loved ones helped me realize that it was much more than a passion. I decided to attend makeup school (LaSalle college) to get certified at the same time as I was attending UQAM university for my bachelor. After graduating, my first makeup portfolio turned my world around. I launched my own mobile makeup services and quickly started working in fashion, doing photoshoots, video shoots and bridals. I ended up quitting the international banking job I had at the time that was draining me, dived headfirst into my dream and never looked back.

After going strong for three years in Montreal, I followed my heart, took a leap of faith and brought my talent to my second home, Miami. Since, I’ve been exploring different makeup fields from red carpet events to festivals, TV, fashion shows, bridals, bodybuilding, personal sessions and teaching internationally in French, English, creole, Spanish and Italian.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It hasn’t been smooth but like they say “no pressure, no diamonds”. I’ve gotten a lot of lessons along the way and I’m still getting them every day. I’ve cried a lot, got rejected, had broke days, struggled with discipline, lost friends, got tested back to back and even got injured. I learned the hard way to balance health (physical and mental), hustle and spirituality, as I am physically my business. It’s really about rising in the face of adversity and overcoming. Nothing worth having comes easy.

We’d love to hear more about your work.

Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
God. My family for always pushing my fire especially my sister Sarah. My inspirations, my close friends, my happy clients, those who refer me, talk about me, follow me, show me love & give me advice. It’s so much deeper than makeup. I’m grateful for every single connection, no matter the age.
