Today we’d like to introduce you to Osmara Rojas.
Osmara, before we jump into specific questions about your work, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I was born and raised in Houston, TX. I discovered my passion for dance in high school, my senior year, I auditioned for the Houston Texans Cheerleaders, and to my surprise, I made it. After two seasons with the team, I knew it was time to take the next step. I always knew I wanted to move to Miami to pursue dance as a career, so in 2017 I booked a one-way flight and auditioned for the Heat dancers. After an intense week of auditioning, I made the team! I moved here, and everything changed. Since then, I have been blessed to be able to work with artists in music videos, performances and also teach dance.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Not at all. Moving to a completely different state and leaving everything I’ve ever known was the hardest thing I’ve ever had to do. There were times when I wanted to give up and just move back home because I missed my family so much, and I wondered if it was even worth it. However, knowing I have people back home that see me as a role model and someone they look up to is what kept me going and still does everyday. Not only that, but this industry can tear you apart if you let it. You have to know who you are, believe in yourself and not let rejection affect you negatively.
We’d love to hear more about your work.
I provide dance classes for all levels. I specialize mainly in feminine heels and twerk classes. What I’m most proud is that I get to make women feel sexy and confident in their own skin.
What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
Dancing for Don Omar in front of thousands of people in Mexico. It was one of those moments where I saw all my hard work and sacrifices pay off, and in that moment it all made sense.
