Meet Nicole Galluccio of Nicole Galluccio Art in Palm Beach County

Today we’d like to introduce you to Nicole Galluccio, Galluccio.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Nicole, . So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I started my college career as a Biochemistry major, which evolved into an interest in bio illustration and studies in Fine Art. Once I took a painting class, it was all over for me. It was something I had never tried and I felt a connection to it immediately. After graduation, out of fear of becoming a “starving artist”, I joined corporate America. For 15 years, I painted and built a body of work while working for corporations in Business Development and Sales. In September 2013, I decided to start applying for shows again.

In April 2014, I left the corporate world for good and started devoting myself to my art on a full time basis. I couldn’t let my dream just pass me by and wonder when would I ever get to do this. I just started workin at it every day, speaking to other artists, connecting with like minded people and working hard. I would do a lot of live painting in downtown Lake Worth in the beginning. The feedback was really essential to my growth as an artist and it got me out there. I began applying to more and more shows. In 2014, I was invited to show at the Cultural Council of Palm Beach County in their Repurposed/Reseen exhibition, which was my first time exhibiting in a fine art institution. I learned that for me, pushing myself to work harder, develop my skills everyday and always continue to do so and consistently create new work has helped me to grow tremendously.

After this show, it really opened many doors for me because people were seeing the work and giving me positive feedback which just made me want to do more, more detail, more skill level, more challenging projects. I showed frequently after then all around palm beach county and in 2016, I moved into the Boynton Beach Art District which gave me a large space to work in, where I could really spread my wings. And a brick and mortar space to meet clients and show my work more frequently and independently as well. In April 2018, I had my first solo exhibition, “Full Bloom” at the Cornell Art Museum in Delray Beach.

Has it been a smooth road?
Is it ever? I’d love that life! Who has that… haha! I definitely think at the time being in corporate, feeling like my soul was deteriorating, was a struggle enough. Every day, I would dream of Exactly what I’m doing now. So, I try to have perspective and am grateful for the opportunity to do this. With that said, I told myself if I was going to do this I had to work harder than I ever had, and truly dedicate myself to it wholly or I wouldn’t make it. Is the truth and it’s applicable to whatever you choose to do. It would be a struggle not to be able to do this so every minor hiccup is welcomed. I think the skills I learned in the corporate world have helped me more than I anticipated, how to be ethical in business is a huge part of it. Dropping the ego and being gracious goes a long way in life… I see every day as an opportunity to grow.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
I am a mixed Media visual artist. I would say that I’m known for my bright stylized illustrative florals mostly. I began using stark black and white newspaper articles and headlines as backgrounds for very bright colorful flowers and imagery in 2006 and it has evolved into what I call happy art. I use color theory on a level to create a sense of joy in viewers. An escape from the dark. Once I opened my space, it gave me the freedom to do more… wearable art, custom shoes, and bags Repurposed furniture. I am mostly known for my paintings I would say but I love using the styles I have created to incorporate into items people can wear. I believe art is for everyone and I strive to have something available for all budgets as well.

Is our city a good place to do what you do?
I think there is a common sense amongst artists in the tri-county area that there need to be more city projects for artists who are from those counties as opposed to seeing huge names throwing up paid murals to drive traffic to a city. This happens often. I think every city needs to make attempts to provide paid projects to talented artists living in and contributing to its economy consistently. To be proud of its own artists, there are so many talented and skilled artists down here. They deserve to be seen!
