Today we’d like to introduce you to Nick Henry.
Nick, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I was born in Jamaica and at a young age, I came to South Florida. Growing up, I was always into arts and sports. I know my parents had me and my brother in all different types of sports growing up so that we couldn’t be out in the streets all the time. Many people that knew me growing up, knew I loved to draw. I used my older brother as inspiration because he was very good at drawing as well. When I was six years old, I won a drawing contest for Fort Lauderdale “Just Say No to Drugs” contest that was for Broward County Schools. With also having a love for sports as well, that took much of my focus. In high school, I played and then went on to Florida Atlantic University to play football there. After graduating from FAU, I decided to put my focus on my passion for Art and creating which I easily knew that was my purpose. I’ve done a lot of different art shows, have done shows in Art Basel, and have been able to meet a lot of different people from all over. Now, my focus is solely on art and creating. I do have other ventures that I’m getting into as well but mostly, revolves around creating in someway.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
The road of being a full-time artist and entrepreneur has never been easy but has been the best decision I’ve ever made. The biggest factor is not listening to the doubt of others. When you fully believe in yourself and others don’t get caught up with that can easily bring down your confidence. I think the struggles of anybody doing their passion as their career such as finance and of course normal lifestyle. There were many sacrifices I made throughout the process. I had countless sleepless nights due to my painting. Missed a lot of trips with friends. But they always understood which I always meant something to me. One thing that I learned was losing people along the way wasn’t such a bad thing. People or things, moving on from it sometimes is the best thing that could happen to you. These were my decisions that were made, but never regret any of the sacrifices I made.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Creative Righteous Children story. Tell us more about the business.
I’m a fine artist, creator, and designer. My greatest passion is painting. Most of my paintings are done in either Oil or Acrylic based medium. I would say my paintings and my art is inspired by people and culture. I love finding a way to empower my people. Through art, fashion I try to make a focal point of this. There are many times where I do just art based pieces, especially in commissions. But for the most part, I am proud of being able to inspire people and empower people through my art and designs. One thing about my work it’s truly one of kind, and I’ve been able to have my artwork and pieces to collectors and clients all over the country. Recently, sent a piece to the Netherlands which was humbling for me. A joy is being respected for my art, and when people reach out to me for a commission because of seeing my art or design from someone else.
Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
I’m not a big believer in luck. I believe that everything does happen for a reason good or bad. The secret was one of the best books and film I’ve read and watch. I believe in the power of the law of attraction. Speaking things into existence and going after it. Whether it’s good or bad, it was meant to happen. I just try to figure out what I should take from it going forward. Having a powerful faith, keeps me going through whatever weather may come. I’m still going to shine.
