Today we’d like to introduce you to NiCale Cruz.
So, before we jump into specific questions, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
Music has always been my passion and helping people enjoy themselves brings me happiness. I started off as a nightclub promoter and gained as much knowledge as I could from that aspect of the entertainment industry. It became sort of second nature to me so as I developed experience and established relationships with music executives, I ventured out on my own to become a booking agent and created my own company, CRUZ Projects.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It has not been smooth the entire way, but every struggle is an opportunity. One of the biggest struggles for me in this industry has been establishing myself as a worthy opponent against the men. People tend to think you can’t be aggressive enough to make deals or don’t have enough “edge”. However, that is the complete opposite of what makes me who I am not only as a woman but as a person. As a woman, I am fierce, determined and never back down from a challenge. I turn all struggles and obstacles into motivation to work twice as hard as my male counterparts. At the end of the day, the bumpy road has paved great success for me.
Please tell us about CRUZ Projects.
CRUZ Projects is a diversified, independent entertainment agency that provides booking, music management, and promotion. For years, CRUZ Projects has successfully lined up over hundreds of concerts, tours, guest appearances, events, and personal meet & greets for our clients. My unique story started from the bottom – promoting clubs and parties then transitioned to making deals with club owners and establishing relationships with artists. CRUZ Projects takes the personal unique approach to each individual artist to ensure they maintain their creativity while providing maximum exposure and lucrative projects. In addition, being Afro-Latina gives me an edge-up on unique opportunities in several music genres and expanded relationships than most other agents.
What were you like growing up?
Growing up, I was always serious, disciplined. Always planning, always coming up with creative ideas. I love to laugh…but I was always about business, even as a kid. I think I’ve always been an entrepreneur and I believe that has definitely helped me to get a little further than most.
