Today we’d like to introduce you to Nae Ivy.
Nae, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
In 2013 I was scrolling Instagram and I saw a loaded baked potato from somebody out of town and because it was so far, I decided to make my own. My uncle Mike took me to the store so I made us one and he gave me the idea to sell it. One thing leads to another and the loaded baked potatoes became a thing in my area.
Has it been a smooth road?
I wouldn’t call them struggles, just lessons learned. Like anything else, you must work hard for the things that you want. My biggest thing may be trying to balance a full-time job & running a business until it’s where I want it to be, but my time is near.
We’d love to hear more about your work.
I did potatoes for about five maybe six years earning the name ‘Potato Nae’ but I wanted to expand. Later on, I slowed down on potatoes and began branching out to full dinners and sometimes breakfast. As time passed, I started getting catering and private dining inquiries, so that’s what takes up most of my time now. I’m most proud of how open I am now, I use to be so antisocial but in this business, you have to be able to put on a smile and sell what you have.
How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
In 5-10 years, Lord’s willing I’ll have a restaurant or food truck but I’ll just keep working hard until that happens.
