Meet Nadine Holland of Floridian Ocean Jewelry in Miami Beach

Today we’d like to introduce you to Nadine Holland.

Nadine, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
How it all started…

When I grew up, I always had a special bond with nature. Even though I grew up surrounded by forest and far away from the Ocean, the ocean was where I felt I belonged.

When I moved to Florida and started freediving, a whole new world opened right in front of me. A world with so much beauty and diversity that all I wanted to do is dive and learn more about it. The more I connected to this beautiful element, the more I felt connected to nature.

Starting from zero in a new country, I truly wanted to create something on my own which I felt was my purpose and which made me happy. So, I connected my happy place with my passion for creating jewelry.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Building up a business on your own in a new country is a BIG challenge. From learning skills to side jobs to building your own website to establishing contacts there are endless obstacles. It’s hard work but you’re working for your own dream and that motivation always kept me going.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about FLORIDIAN OCEAN JEWELRY – what should we know?
What I love most about my jewelry is that every piece is a one of a kind. If it’s a shell or a piece of turquoise, each one is unique. What I also always want to make sure is that each piece reflects the beauty of the ocean. If it’s the light blue and turquoise colors of the Caribbean sea or ocean sparkles at sunset. I want you to feel that it’s your connection to the ocean, your way of expressing your love for nature and your goodwill of showing the world its beauty by raising awareness of protecting it.

What sets us apart from others is that we use a lot of local materials like local seashells, sea glass, pearls, etc., mostly everything Florida has to offer. So, what better way of visiting Florida and taking a piece of it with you.

Another thing I wanna point out is that all the metals we use are made to last in the water. I wanted to make sure that if you wear the jewelry, you won’t have to worry about it getting wet. If it’s swimming in the ocean or doing sports, you can always wear our pieces without the worry of tarnishing or losing color. We only use 925 sterling silver or 14k or 24k gold filled which makes the jewelry 100% ocean proof.

What is your favorite childhood memory?
Going on vacation to my mom’s hometown in the Netherlands to collect seashells on the beach.
