Today we’d like to introduce you to Nadege Charles.
Nadege, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Being born a Haitian decent came with some challenging acceptance issues and played a major role in many of our self-esteem. We grew up battling with feelings of not being pretty enough and so much more negative stereotypes that were being tied along with that towards “ZOES”.
As I got older and learned more of our country’s history, I started feeling more confident, proud, and bold. Our flag needed to be presented with positivity and honor. I knew right then and there what I wanted to do for our culture to share our true beauty. I created my clothing line called BelFanmAyiti and now five years later, each design and product created is helping shed light of our rich motherland.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
The road was not as smooth as one would think. Here I was with this amazing vision and idea but I knew nothing about running a business or owning my very 1st one. I stepped out on faith and taught myself the ends and out of marketing, networking being a vendor and so much more. I had to learn from many mistakes and also embrace the victories.
Please tell us about Bel Fanm Ayiti.
BelFanmAyiti Represents All Shades, Sizes and Heights of the Haitian Decent. This Brand Was Created To Empower Haitian Women and Further Encourage Greater Confidence In The Skin You’re In. I am the creative director behind all advertising and marketing, working with designers, leading sales strategies and creating a vision for products sold. I am the brain behind my company.
I am most proud of seeing how far the company has grown. It’s the best feeling ever seeing my fellow Haitians wear their clothing with great pride and confidence. Our unique designs and mission statement set apart from the others.
If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
I would have invested more time on researching how to run a social media business. Networked before I launched the company and built a team of like-minded individuals who would help assist me into growing the company instead of putting so much load on myself.
