Today we’d like to introduce you to Alex Valle.
Alex, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I started mr.pb&j gourmet pb&j sandwich truck and more in 2012 with my ex co-owner Paul Fernandez. I bought him out in 2016 and have owned the company since. We have been on shows like NBC six in the mix, deco drive and the dan lebartard show. We’ve also been in nylon magazine, Miami new times, and Miami hearld. We’ve also won the best food at fiu beer and food festival with the havan bites which is cuban bread, guava, cream cheese, peanut nutter, and ham croquetas.
We participated in the grand tasting for the south beach food and wine festival this year. I’m also the founder of Don’t be jelly festival. It is a pb&j eating contest. We just had the third annual in February. We had 22 different breweries compete this year. each brewery provides one competitor that comes up with a wrestling, persona, theme music and fun facts. It’s a shit show. Super funny and fun. I’m also the manager of the strange beast brewery that just opened. I was gonna sell my company because I thought I was going to be to busy with the truck and being the manager but I put cameras in the truck and now have employees working it. so it’s not on the market anymore and were now on uber eats too. I’m also a tour guide for expedition south Florida excursions. I lead biking and kayak tours all over South Florida. I also lead history tours of Miami.
Has it been a smooth road?
It was a very hard journey. Bringing gourmet pb&js to a hispanic demographic was really hard. Also finding spots that were consistent and last year my engine blew and had to replace that.
Please tell us about your business.
Were the only gourmet pb&j truck in the southern united states. were one of a kind with are combinations. we have pb&js with burgers, sauteed chicken, croquetas, fried chicken, waffles. We have six types of bread, four types of peanut butter, eight types of jellies and all kinds of toppings. We also have shakes. also, we carry items that don’t have peanut butter like burgers. corndogs, hot dogs, fries, chicken tenders, and grilled cheeses.
Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
I love my city I’m a Miami boy since day one. I love all my Miami sports teams, business and my city. the traffic sucks and I don’t like that you cant park food truck anywhere you need permission from the property owner.
