Today we’d like to introduce you to Morey Moss.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Morey. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I graduated from the University of Miami in 1962. In 1965, I purchased Berkeley Florist Supply Co. which was one of 5 traditional wholesale floral companies in Miami. I have been operating Berkeley for 55 years this December. We import flowers and greens from all over the world and also have an extensive floral supply department with a major showroom. We have large walk-in coolers where you can see and pick out your own flowers. We have 30 employees with extensive knowledge of the floral industry some of whom have been here 40 years. We service South Florida flower shops, Central America and the Bahamian and Caribbean Islands.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It has been a wonderful industry because the quality of flowers has improved tremendously over the years. We are shipping flowers from farms from all over the world and there are beautiful varieties available all year long. Any problems we have had over the years have been solved and we continue to be a viable industry. By far, the worst problem we have ever had is what we are going through right now with this pandemic. When people can’t gather for a wedding, a party or an event, than the flower industry becomes less important and the demand for flowers greatly lessens. We desperately need this to change soon to perpetuate the industry. The best thing about the flower business is that we make people happy. In that respect, we are blessed.
