Mirlina, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
Thank you for the opportunity to share. But I have to say that this idea was all God. He entrusted me with the vision and purpose of La Lune Cosmétique. And when He released, I took it and ran with it. I was never, and still am not, afraid of working. I’ve always been a hard working person. Even in employment settings, my colleagues would say the same. I’m a dedicated, hard working, leader who is also educated. I earned an Associate of Science Degree in Paralegal Studies and a Bachelor of Science Degree in Criminal Justice. You see, I actually love the law. And my goal was to even go back to school to become a lawyer; however, God had other plans. I remembered getting into makeup more, using it on myself and others, and then seeing the confidence boost it gave. That honestly made me start to fall in love with the art of makeup application. Then I thought of how beautiful it would be to boost others while use my makeup line instead of someone else’s. Now don’t get me wrong, other cosmetic companies are great at what they do. Obviously, I have used other products in the past. However, I imagined a bigger picture – a picture with my brand beside theirs in top stores and online. And to this very day, I’m still confident that makeup artists across the globe
will one day utilize my products for their clientele.
In the initial planning stages, I just wanted to have a cosmetic line that could make anyone feel good. I imagined using only lipstick or eyeliner, maybe even a little glitter. However, skincare is the most crucial component of makeup and it’s application process. Without a beautiful and healthy canvas, it is hard to remain happy, confident, and comfortable with what you see in the mirror. Having a good skincare routine is the secret to flawless skin and stunning makeup. I wanted to take it up a notch to create products that would still make everyone feel beautiful, with flawless skin — whether they were wearing makeup or not. So combining both Makeup and Skincare became my goal. And that is how La Lune Cosmétique began.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Every small business has a rough start. I believe it’s part of the process and part of your growth. I was prepared, or so I thought. I’d written out a business plan and was sure that I was ready for the journey. But let’s just say that my first year didn’t go according to my plans at all. Ultimately, I started doubting myself and fear crept in. Then I was reminded that God didn’t give us a spirit of fear and I had to continuously remind myself of that. My struggles came from not believing in myself and thinking that no one would support me. I started to overthink my ability to successfully exist amongst so many other cosmetic lines. I started counting out my clients before I even had a chance to gain them. But I pushed and made up my mind to remain true to my company and myself. I kept going back to those written goals and plans, and slowly started to gain confidence. Now, it’s been years and I believe like never before! But I also think some of the struggles came when I was trying to do everything alone. I was the designer, photographer, planner, marketing manager, and everything in between. If it was needed, you name it, and I was doing it. Then I was able to hire and trust others with the vision. I had to trust the help that I needed to get the work done. Once this happened, the business started to flow better and some of those struggles I had began to disappear.

La Lune Cosmétique is a cosmetics line that was created to empower and sculpt everyone’s mind about their appearance. The main goal was always, and will always be, to let people know and feel that they are beautiful – with or without makeup. I want everyone to feel their flourishing connection with the Moon, inside and out; this enables them to shine just like it!
As for me personally, I wear several different hats. I am an entrepreneur heart. I presently am co-owner of a tax business, I’m a licensed esthetician, an insurance agent, a paralegal, and am currently using my paralegal expertise with my new position. In January 2021, I plan to launch my PR and Marketing firm and am presently representing an amazing internationally known Haitian Rapper. My specialty is leadership. I am a natural-born leader with the ability to provide ideas, establish a foundation, invoke innovate, and catapult others towards growth. I am mostly known for my enthusiastic personality. Secondly, I am also known as a Makeup and Skincare guru.
I am most proud of implementing diversity as a core value within my business. What I provide is created to captivate diverse audiences. What sets me apart is the quality of my products and that the line is Plant-based and cruelty-free. I did a lot of research and I take my brand seriously. The fact that I also obtained my license as an esthetician helped me a great deal in this business. It sets me apart because, as a licensed esthetician, it allows me to gain more knowledge about the elements of the human skin. And this is what helps me create a line that almost anyone can use. But also, my business is set apart from many in this dispensation because my line is for women and men. In September, we will be launching our Men’s Line that will incorporate skincare and beard grooming products.
What were you like growing up?
Haiti roots run through my blood and I love it! But I was very shy as a young girl. I actually wanted to be a model because I was very skinny with long legs. I remember thinking that I was going to become a well-known supermodel. However, all of that changed when I came to the US in 1999. I started going to school and my career choice also changed. Though I wanted to become a lawyer, entrepreneurship invaded my heart after my sister and I had our first business. That was actually a Boutique. We were young and lacked experience in business. But the opportunity to take that journey changed my view in life. I didn’t know then what I wanted to have as a business, but I knew that I wanted to be my own Boss and create opportunities for others. I think personality-wise, people will say that I am a very happy person; goofy, friendly, and funny. I own those attributes proudly and I take control of my own happiness.
