Today we’d like to introduce you to Michelle Hoover.
Michelle, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I actually was working full time as a general manager at Chipotle when my fiance and I got pregnant, with our now 2 year old daughter! Once I gave birth to her, we soon realized we did not want anyone else to be watching her other then us, and if we were both to go back to work to our crazy schedules, it would just not work. We decided I would stay home to take care of our precious baby girl. My fiance actually brung up the idea that maybe I should start the dream I’ve always had, creating an all natural skin & hair care company. Six months later, I officially launched my brand and here we are almost two years later, still working from home watching baby girl, and now making more then what I did at my previous job!
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
NO!!!!! Being a new entrepreneur ON TOP of being a first-time mother was extremely difficult. I put everything I had into my business from the very beginning because I’ve always had big plans for my business, but for the first six months after I launched, I probably had 6-7 orders…. going from salary pay to NOTHING was extremely difficult mentally for me. Now looking back at those times, I see how that truly pushed me to keep going (with the encouragement of my fiance) and also showed my commitment and character as a person. I wanted so badly for my business to become something where someday my family could all work alongside me, and I was willing to do all the hard work to make that happen.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Tropicgyal Naturals – what should we know?
I make 100% ALL NATURAL skin & hair care products from all skin & hair types! Our products are all vegan, cruelty-free, preservative-free, synthetic fragrance-free and made with the best quality organic ingredients from mother earth. I believe what sets us apart from other companies is truly our ingredients. I do NOT compromise when it comes to our products and what goes in them and have found ways to make conventional products like shampoo & conditioners actually be 100% ALL NATURAL which is also what I’m most proud about our company.
Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
My fiance from the beginning as been my ROCK. He had no idea what he was getting into when he first told me I should start this haha, but he has been by my side every step of the way, from loans to helping my figure out product pricing to now helping me complete wholesale orders. Honestly, social media has also helped A LOT, at first I would compare my brand to other brands I would see, but then I realized I need to just focus on my brand and that’s it. Once I did that, I really started to grow! With the connections I was creating through social media, my brand started growing all from word of mouth about my customer’s amazing results!
