Meet Michelle Gemmell of Body Couture Pilates & Fitness in Fort Lauderdale

Today we’d like to introduce you to Michelle Gemmell.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
A little over two years ago, I decided to embark on the adventure of a lifetime. I sold my house in Johannesburg, South Africa and moved to Florida with the dream of opening a boxing fitness gym. The boxing idea quickly morphed into a much broader spectrum of fitness when I stumbled upon the opportunity to buy Body Couture Pilates and Fitness – a reformer Pilates and yoga studio in Fort Lauderdale.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Change is never smooth and the obstacles can sometimes appear endless but I believe that persistence is key. It may be persistence – or perhaps it’s sheer stubbornness – but either way, it has worked for me.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Body Couture Pilates & Fitness story. Tell us more about the business.
The studio gave me the perfect base to introduce my boxing fitness classes, as well as offer additional options over and above the Pilates, such as ballet classes, barre, TRX, Spin & Sculpt, HIIT, etc. We offer the perfect combination of classes which include both cardio and toning, using state-of-the-art reformer Pilates equipment to maximize workouts. Our method redesigns and tones the body by stretching and strengthening muscles, improving posture and overall toning.

In addition to our regular classes, Body Couture is the home of Rock Steady Boxing Fort Lauderdale – a program specifically designed for people with Parkinson’s disease. This non-contact boxing program has proven to improve the lives of people living with Parkinson’s. Boxing drills help participants with agility, speed, muscular endurance accuracy, hand-eye coordination, footwork and overall strength.

We believe that fitness can be somewhat intimidating and offer a friendly and welcoming atmosphere in order to alleviate some of those insecurities. We cater to clients of all fitness levels and packages can be tailor-made to suit your schedule.

Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
