Micheleine, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
Baepreneur is a business that was 20 years in the making. My mother owned a business in the local flea market. Much to her chagrin, the downside of her successful business was the paperwork. Lots and lots of paperwork. Enter 14-year-old me. Unlike my Haitian born mother, I didn’t have a language barrier and had the patience it took to deal with all the red tape. I was running a business before I learned to drive a car, and it was as natural as breathing for me. I felt that filling out forms and dropping necessary documents to City Hall was fun, it was never work. I found solace in the paperwork and I couldn’t wait for opportunities to do more of it.
When it was time for me to choose a career, it was a no-brainer: I worked for an attorney for seven years. This endeavor opened my eyes to the necessity of legalizing your business. I paid attention and absorbed everything I witnessed: necessary paperwork that every business should have, what should be in place before a business goes “public”, proper business attire, business etiquette, how to acquire business with decorum and tact, even how to sever business ties appropriately. I began helping family and friends; I would insist that they went over my business checklist. This list ensured, that not only were they ready to start a business but that they were legal to start a business.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The obstacles I tend to face in my business, has been convincing people that they need my services. Unbeknownst to many, most businesses have been running for YEARS, without being legal to run in their state of operation. How I overcome these obstacles is by educating my prospective clients on the importance of having a sound and legal business. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve had people come to me after they’ve been turned down for loans, government assistance, and contracts, because when it came down to showing proof of their business operations at the negotiating table, they had none. Fortunately, Baepreneur, is your preventative step in conducting your business accordingly and efficiently.

What role has luck (good luck or bad luck) played in your life and business?
Luck doesn’t play doesn’t play a role for me. I’m not being facetious, I’m just saying that I don’t believe in luck. I believe in preparation, Grace, doing unto others as I would like them to do unto me and availability. I have been preparing for this role since I was 13 years old, I was born for this type of work. I have had Grace bestowed on my life to be able to work in places and surrounded by people who could teach me more than any University could about business and life. I have always believed what’s for me is for me and that everyone deserves to be treated well the first time, and because of that belief, good treatment has been bestowed upon me a thousand fold. Lastly, availability has always been steered in my fortune. I make myself available for opportunities to present myself and my business in the best light, I attend seminars and business trainings, I invest in myself so that when I am presented with the opportunities, I am available and ready.
