Today we’d like to introduce you to Michele Liberis-McNabb and Kettia Louis.
Michele and Kettia, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
My name is Michele Liberis-McNabb and I am the founder and president of The MillionHeiress Club. I launched the organization in September of 2013, while employed as a full-time Pharmaceutical Sales Representative for a major pharmaceutical company. During that time, I developed a strong passion and desire to become a full time entrepreneur, capable of living out my life under my owns terms and conditions and feeling fulfilled in the effort of walking in my purpose. My main desire was to see minority women cultivate an atmosphere that exuded ambition, support, personal and professional growth, entrepreneurship and sisterhood. I searched for an organization that could meet this criteria and was stunned to find none that represented women of color who were looking to be guided in the area of small business ownership and entrepreneurship.
This passion is what birthed, The MillionHeiress Club. A social platform for women of color seeking guidance and resources as they transition into entrepreneurship or to simply excel in their professional careers. We pride our organization on 3 main pillars: A Genuine & Supportive Sisterhood, Personal and Professional Development, and a unique Curriculum to encourage and boost small business ownership success.
Has it been a smooth road?
There have been many challenges faced over the last 5 years, particularly because I was entering entrepreneurship without any guidance or resources to assist me in avoiding common startup errors. I have had to revisit my ideal target many time, as I was not clearly defining what type of members my organization would be most beneficial for. I had no knowledge or training in marketing and branding and had to learn on my own through trial and error. Creating a committed and loyal membership base took months of planning, structuring and content creation to both maintain interest and challenge my members year to year.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the The MillionHeiress Club story. Tell us more about the business.
Since our inception, TMHC has created a resourceful and supportive Sisterhood for Entrepreneurial Minded Women of Color, by providing both Beginner and Intermediate levels of training in Professional Development, Small Business and Organizational Start-Up. The key to our success is our genuine sisterhood, uniquely formed and strengthened through group Philanthropy efforts, outside of the box social outings; and our annual Ladies Vacation Retreat.
We offer a unique curriculum that helps to motivate and guide our members into a realistic transition phase from employee to entrepreneurship; as well as assisting our career driven women to seek promotions in their respective fields. We host monthly and quarterly events such as our signature Dream Builder’s Workshops, in which the content and guest speak for each event provides an inside look and resources on the various area of personal and professional development, small business startup and business planning/strategizing.
Our ultimate goal is to lower the percentage of entrepreneurs who fail within their first year of business from lack of support, preparation, resources and knowledge.
We are most proud of our growth, as we now transition into our 2nd Chapter in Atlanta, Georgia.
How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
We see our industry continuing to grow due to the fact that women, particularly minority women, have become the fastest growing group of entrepreneurs in the country over the past few years. We see many career professionals making the shift from 9-5 to small business ownership, in order to pursue their desires for being their own boss, spending more time with family, having the ability to travel and determine their own income levels.
