Today we’d like to introduce you to Melissa Innocent.
Melissa, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I started off as a teenager always sketching clothing so I always knew that being a designer is what I wanted to do with my life. I got older and I went on to be an intern for different clothing companies in the Miami area and it really taught me the ins and outs of designing from beginning to end and the importance of dedication and consistency.
I finally decided last year that I wanted to go off on my own and design clothing that represented something special to me and women all over. I knew that I wanted the name to start with my first name Melissa and I came up with Maniche because it’s a very well known beautiful community in the country of Haiti, which is my ethnic background.
It’s interesting because I had different people that wanted to be negative that said: “there is enough clothing brands out there already don’t waste your time.” But for me, I said no this brand is something that is unique to me and will stand out from the rest. Our pieces are handmade which I take great pride in because it’s important to have clothing that is made with care.
I focused the brand on creating clothing that is suitable for the day at work and also the evening for cocktail hour or a night out with the girls or even to go to the beach. When a woman chooses to buy one of our pieces we include some words of positivity in their bag because that is what Melissa Maniche is all about. Supporting women empowerment, love of themselves and being confident every time they wear one of our pieces.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Definitely not a smooth road!
The people you start within creating a business most of the time change so that alone was stressful. Also, there is the fact of being a new brand and having people believe in your vision. Being a new brand also comes with financial hardships that I had to overcome. I had to keep pushing until at some point people began to see my vision and fell in love with the brand.

So I am the founder and Designer for Melissa Maniche.
I am known for creating handmade clothing with beautiful details that show off the curves of every woman.
I am most proud of the fact that this company focuses on being unique and also supporting the day to day female and that is what sets us apart. Being a brand that focuses on confidence, strength and not just clothing.
Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
Of course, my family (my husband, my sister, parents, my cousin) have been my biggest supporters/cheerleaders and I am grateful for that. I have some amazing best friends that have been supportive.
House of Top Models in Miami have been right there supporting Melissa Maniche for a long time and helping with various projects that we have worked on.
Social Cafe Group in Miami has also been a mentor for me and helping me create ideas to further evolve the brand.
