Today we’d like to introduce you to Melissa Martinez.
Melissa is the founder and owner of City Pooch. City Pooch was established in 2006. Melissa was a pet parent to a 3-year-old Yorkshire terrier named Sofia. As a pet parent, Melissa realized there was a need in the market for a Specialized Grooming facility that would cater to the pet and the owners as well. This is when the idea of City Pooch was created. City Pooch is a specialized grooming facility that offers Breed Standard grooming for all breeds as wells as Creative Styling for Mixed Breeds.
Melissa recently graduated from the Goldman Sachs 10,000 Small Business Program. This program was developed to help Small Businesses grow and in turn help their local community by generating more jobs.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Having a small business is not easy. We opened our doors and soon after the 2008 market crash happened. The next 2 years were hard, but with dedication and hard work, we were able to stay open and continue to service the dogs in our community.

We pride ourselves in the level of expertise we offer, we have 5 professionally trained Pet Groomers. We strive to always give the pets and the pet parents exceptional customer service. We keep detailed notes of every pets grooming session so that we keep the work consistent. Our facility is sanitized thoroughly every day as the pets safety and health are our priority.
So, what’s next? Any big plans?
We are looking to expand and offer more services to our customers. We want to build on our excellent reputation and help our customers and their pets with all their needs. The new services will include: Pet Sitting, Dog Walking, In-Home Boarding, Pick up and Delivery for Grooming services, as well as dog nutrition and pet, treats. We will be a one-stop shop for our customers.
