Today we’d like to introduce you to Maytee Toledo.
Maytee, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I started my career as a tattoo artist in 2003 after a 2-year apprenticeship. At 30 years of age, I was a mom and a full-time tattoo artist, which was quite overwhelming at times, but my love for the craft kept me pushing through. On my tenth year anniversary, I opened my own studio, Sunset Tattoo Parlour in West Kendall Florida. This trade has evolved since then and so has my passion.
Tattooing has giving me a good living, It’s allowed me to travel and meet many talented people. I’ve made many friendships and I can’t imagine myself doing anything else. I work with an amazing group of artists, David Cardona, Jose Berrios, Andy Cordero & the newest addition Ralph Medina. This has been an amazing ride so far and I’m looking forward to the future, as I am planning on opening another studio in Jupiter, Fl. Life is good and as long as love is the basis of whatever you do, you’ll succeed.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Lots of criticism which is tough, but makes you grow and keeps you humble. Starting over again on my own taught me many life lessons, work hard, believe in yourself and the rest will come.
Sunset Tattoo Parlour – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Sunset Tattoo Parlour is a custom tattoo studio, in Kendall, FL. We have 5 artists to serve you. We create custom quality tattoos and are very passionate about it. We specialize in many different styles, American Traditional, Neo-Traditional and Japanese to name a few. The shop has a welcoming staff and an inviting atmosphere. Our team is always thriving to provide the best tattoos for our clients. We have fun at work which creates a happy and enjoyable experience.
What role has luck (good luck or bad luck) played in your life and business?
The support I’ve gotten throughout the years from family & friends. I’m very fortunate to have such an amazing group of artists and friends working with me. Everything I’ve gone through in my life has led me to where I am today (good and bad) and I am grateful.
