Today we’d like to introduce you to Maya Holton.
Maya, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
As a child, I was always known as a “social butterfly.” I talked so much in school that I occasionally had a note sent home to my parents saying something along the lines of, “Maya just won’t stop talking in class.” I promised my Mom that I was only trying to be helpful and explain things to other children when I got caught yapping haha. Now that I am an adult, I realize that I’ve always been a communicator and I always understood the value in communicating thoughts and ideas with people around me! Transitioning from childhood into adulthood taught me that my love for talking and communicating has turned into a passion.
A few years ago, I realized that social media is the best vehicle for me to share and communicate my thoughts with all types of people. My Instagram account (@gotuthinkin) is where I share my insight on life with others, with the hopes of offering new perspectives that may cause people to evaluate how they view themselves and their situations. I hope to help people interact better with others by offering different perspectives about the things we all deal with on a day to day basis.
For me, this is only the beginning. Aside from my 9 to 5 job, I hope to be able to communicate and share my ideas about life with people all around the globe via large seminars and smaller intimate events. My passion is inspiring people to live their lives to the fullest while helping them think on deeper levels. I want people to understand the true power of thought! “Thoughts Become Things” ~ Bob Proctor~
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Because both my day job and my passion require so much of my mental energy and focus, I must say that it is not always a smooth road. It takes a great amount of focus in order for me to translate my thoughts into words that I feel people will understand. My thoughts and ideas come from day to day life experiences that tug at my spirit. There are times where I literally have to stop everything I am doing and put my thoughts on paper or else I’ll lose them! That’s not always easy to do if I am in the middle of a work event or meeting. Nonetheless, my passion for encouraging others to see situations in a more uplifting light makes me dedicated to finding a way to get a message written down so that I can share it.
Please tell us more about your work, what you are currently focused on and most proud of.
I am a Public Relations Agent for the City of Miami by day which allows me to do the things I enjoy, communicating and coordinating. I plan city events, manage my department’s website and correspond with residents about their concerns. Outside of my day job, I consider myself an Influencer of Thought and Positivity. I am most proud when someone tells me that the thoughts I shared with them, either in person or through social media, gave them a new perspective or simply made them feel better. I truly believe we need more of that sort of influence in the world. What sets me apart when it comes to the thoughts and ideas I share is my style of communication. I do my best not to write in a manner that criticizes, but rather in a way that inspires, invokes deep thought, and self-reflection.
Tell us about your favorite and least favorites things about our city.
What I love the most about living in Miami is the Caribbean culture. There are so many places that you can visit in Miami and experience the food, music, and lifestyle of many of the Caribbean countries that are not too far away from us. This city has a unique vibe that is hard to find anywhere else. The people here are confident and love to live their lives. You may not be a celebrity, but being in Miami can make you feel like one if you know how to have a great time! My least favorite things about Miami is the heat…it gets pretty hot haha. With that being said, at least we are lucky enough to have the ocean near by where we can go cool off!
