Mauricio, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
Now I see it as an escape to our regular jobs. My brother and I created Popticular.com as a way of developing something fun together. We are both avid pop culture consumers and just wanted to do something on the side that brought us more joy than a 9 to 6 job that in my case was kind of killing me hahaha.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road, we’ve faced all types of challenges. The digital world is ever-changing, and all the process of gaining exposure in a landscape so populated has certainly been difficult, but it has been a matter of persistence and doing the work no matter what. Today I can say it is one of the things I am most proud of from a professional standpoint.
We’d love to hear more about your work and what you are currently focused on. What else should we know?
Popticular.com is a digital entertainment news outlet. We specialize in entertainment news, not gossip (we have always tried to make that clear within our editorial line). I am definitely very proud of the type of journalism we are doing, we are creating the type of entertainment news we like to read, honest, well structured, there are no “fake news” here and that has been something we’ve been proud of since the beginning.
It is funny because this is a two-man-show, people constantly ask us where are your headquarters, and I keep answering the same thing: wherever there’s wifi and something interesting to share. We’ve always been focused on presenting quality over quantity to our readers, either on the website or on its social media outlets.
Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
It would be sharing with family in my hometown. I come from a tiny city in Venezuela and we are a very close-knit group, now it’s more difficult because we are all over the world, so those moments I still cherish as my favorites ever.
