Marlo, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I’ve always been a very affectionate and caring person. I’ve always wanted to help others or fix a situation if I could.
“Touch” became a comfort to me when my grandmother transitioned in 1997. Her passing was devastating to me because she raised me. I wasn’t home at the time, so to come home and she was gone left an emptiness inside of me. I felt the need to touch her one last time to say goodbye. To feel her skin, to make the connection with her comforted me.
“Comfort” by “touch” was introduced to me when my grandfather was transitioning and placed on hospice. I was reading how to just hold your loved one hand is comforting to them in this state.
“Relaxation” and “Relief from Pain” was my third learning of the benefits of massage. I was involved in an auto accident where I was hit on my driver’s side. I was the driver. From the impact, I was extremely tense and shaken up from that. I would go to the chiropractor as recommended, but I never felt good. I was still tense and experiencing some pain. I was referred by a co-worker to get a massage. That changed my life. I knew two things after that massage, I wanted to make people feel like that, and I wanted to always have this experience and feel this way.
I noticed how when I would touch people, they would calm down. Older people would always say that I had “healing hands”.
Has it been a smooth road?
Smooth? That depends on what kind of smooth you’re referring to! Lol.
I would say the smoothest part has been that of helping others. No matter if the stress, pain or discomfort that a person is experiencing is emotional, physical, or mental, you are allowing someone the comfort and/or in some sessions, the guidance to release that stagnant energy that is weighing them down.
The challenges have come financially as I started my business with $11.24 in my bank account, prayer and my faith. Your faith is shaken every minute when you’re in business for yourself and are building your clientele. It has been many days I considered going back to corporate America, but then I remembered why I left!

Melt & Relax is a mobile business that provides in-home, office, hotel and event chair and table massage services.
Melt and Relax focuses on the healing power of love, through intentional touch. Our mission is to redirect the stagnant energy within the body, mind and soul while providing the client with a safe, caring, nurturing and loving experience.
We are mostly known for Deep Tissue (healing) and Swedish (therapeutic) modalities.
