Today we’d like to introduce you to Mark Weesner and Caroline Weesner.
Mark and Caroline, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Moving to Florida was never on our radar that all changed in 2014, we had a new family addition a baby girl. On the day of her birth, we noticed her left leg was visibly shorter than her right. After finding out her diagnosis, (A rare birth defect called Congenital Femoral Deficiency or CFD with Fibular Hemimelia) we decided we were going to find the best care possible to help her with her condition. During the search, a doctor’s named Dror Paley, came up countless times connected with stories of how he was helping kids with the same condition.
We found out that Dr. Paley is internationally recognized for his expertise in limb lengthening and reconstruction. Families fly from all over the world for the special care and surgeries he provides. Also turns out that The Paley Institute was located in West Palm Beach at St. Mary’s Hospital. We flew in for a consultation, and upon meeting and speaking to Dr. Paley we felt that his care and the care of his staff were exactly what our daughter needed.
The consultation visit was in April 2016 and by Sept of 2016, we had sold our house in Colorado and moved into our new home just outside of West Palm Beach.
I (Mark) have been in the coffee business for ten years. Caroline and I have always dreamed of owning our own business. As we researched we found that WPB didn’t have a very large specialty coffee scene, especially one that served out of a mobile, food truck style cafe. Along with friends who encouraged us to take the next step, we brainstormed on how we could make this a reality and BrewWeezy Coffee Company was born.
We decided to go with a vintage style mobile cafe. We are currently in the process of renovating a 1964 Travelmaster trailer. In the meantime, we have a pop-up tent where we sell coffee at special events at YouFarm in Loxahatchee, FL. We cannot wait to get this mobile cafe off the ground and running!
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has been a relatively smooth road but like with any adventure sometimes life gets in the way. It has been a slower-moving process than we would have liked with the remodel on the trailer. Our daughter is in the middle of her first lengthening procedure, and along with our son, she always takes top priority. There are lots of physical therapy visits and follow up visits to keep up with. We keep moving forward and as long as forward is the way we are going, it doesn’t matter whether it’s fast or slow.
Tell us about your business.
I think what sets us apart is that we are not only in the business of selling coffee. We are in the business of pouring into our customers. We have a goal to be the place where not only the coffee is delicious and made to your liking but when you step up to place your order you will feel a warm welcome. We want you to know that when we ask you about your day, we really DO care about how it’s going and that we will try and make it better with a hot (or cold) cup of coffee and a genuine caring heart.
What have been some of the most important lessons you’ve learned over the course of your career?
Timing…with everything we have going on with our daughter, maybe the timing was a bit off. But we felt like if we didn’t take that leap of faith when we did, we would probably still just be dreaming about it instead of doing.
