Meet Mario Ramil

Today we’d like to introduce you to Mario Ramil.

Mario, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
This journey began out of necessity. Being a stand-up comedian and social media influencer in Miami, I felt like there wasn’t really a community where local creatives could come together under one roof, bounce ideas, collaborate, and create. Advice people give you when you want to break into the entertainment industry is to move to Hollywood or New York, and I refused to accept that. I kept telling myself we didn’t live in small town in the middle of nowhere you can’t pronounce, we live in a major city and there’s no reason why we shouldn’t have a major platform for people like me. After working a nine-to-five for five years at the State Attorney’s office, I decided to make that ambition a reality by creating our own digital Hollywood right here in our city. I decided to fill that void by creating a hub called XQUME Miami where creatives and artists can come together as a community and collectively create original content to potentially monetize and expose their art from Miami to the world!

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
No, it hasn’t been a smooth road, but that’s what keeps it interesting! You’re presented with a new obstacle that you have to overcome every day. The outcome might not always be in your favor, but that’s what makes the chasing fun! I think a lot of people give up before they begin because they’re afraid of the journey. They’re afraid of the ups and downs and of failing. You can’t wait around for the right time or what you think is the “right opportunity.” No one is going discover you at home sitting on your couch – you have to go out and discover it yourself! You have to be willing to fail!

We’d love to hear more about XQUME Miami.
I’m known as a comedian, editor, entrepreneur, and full-time dad! My stand-up and online sketches like the Cuban-Doctor, Rodrigo the Weatherman, and my voice-overs, have gained me a strong following and a dedicated fan-base. I’m humbled by the connections we’ve been able to make with businesses, sports teams, and even cities to allow us to partner with them to create both live and online content. I’m also extremely proud of the fact that so many people have gravitated towards XQUME and how it becomes a second home for individuals who felt a little lost and didn’t quite fit in. It has given a lot of them a sense of purpose to be surrounded with others who think and feel the way they do!

What I feel sets us apart, is our tenacity to create original content and to find real common ground among our audience and us! We’ve been able to gain the trust of our viewers to allow us to supply them with our brand of comedy and content. There’s no other digital network in Miami that operates as a TV network – giving our audience a combination of live segments, sketches, blogs, memes, and live shows!

Finding a mentor and building a network are often cited in studies as a major factor impacting one’s success. Do you have any advice or lessons to share regarding finding a mentor or networking in general?
Anyone can truly be a mentor if you’re willing to listen to the stories of their failures. I found that the best mentors are the ones that have failed often but have never lost focus of what they wanted. I’ve learned you need to put yourself out there as much as possible – because it’s not always about who you know, but about who knows you!
