Today we’d like to introduce you to Maria Hinestroza.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
When I was 15, I started working in the summer with my great grandmother at her store in the Seybold building downtown Miami. She had a store where she repaired jewelry, did pearl restringing and design jewelry for all the jewelers in that building and all over Florida.
She thought me her work and she always said to me I was a natural and I could take this work anywhere and build something on my own wherever I move. I am 32 years old now and I decided in 2014 to pursue this work that I love so much. I lived in Boca Raton but in order to get the word out, I started making my own designs and signing up for vendors events all around to get exposure while working from home and keeping my part time job at the Cuban cafe to try to save and invest as much as I could. I started doing fashion shows with people in the area, so after 3 years I was able to rent my own space and from jewelry became the clothes and designing gowns to wedding dresses and everyone had a very positive response to my work and my taste in fashion.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It’s been an amazing experience with obstacles, struggles and being a single mother but knowing and loving something so much and having the confidence to know that what you do is unique and beautiful that those obstacles gave me more drive.
So I am thankful for my struggles, to me those have been my blessings
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Be Desired Jewelry – what should we know?
I design jewelry, repair jewelry, pearl restring, and redesign. I design my own gowns and I got into wedding gowns because of clients requesting them. I also have jewelry and dresses made by other companies. I just try to stay different, classy and sexy with my stuff.
I’m different because I offered so many services in my shop that some have called it “one stop shop”. My boutique is by appointment only. I like to have that special bond with my clients to get to know them a little and understanding what they are looking for so I can make or find the perfect piece they are looking for.
Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
Always keep going and knowing that there will be good and bad days and it’s always about having a good positive vibe.
Having faith in God and staying focus no matter what everyone else is doing. And not share all your work or vision with everyone lol.
