Today we’d like to introduce you to Melanie Quintero.
Melanie, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
My name is Melanie, I lived in Miami my whole life. I started with my makeup and fashion passion when I was pretty much a toddler. I would always run around in heels and play with my mom’s makeup. Every event I had I always wanted to have the best dress, best makeup and hair. I started really getting into makeup and doing my blogs on social media in high school. For homecoming or prom, I would do my friend’s makeup and of course my own and that’s when I knew I wanted to do this as a career because making that one person feel so beautiful inside and out is what I love about this life.
After high school I started expanding my horizons and started going to New York fashion week, styling for the different brands in Miami for Miami fashion week and being behind the scenes was the best thing for me to experience and do. I started my Instagram @makeupbycurls two years ago after I did my friend’s makeup for her wedding party and to start my business. Since then it has been an amazing journey. I have the best clients and doing their makeup and styling them is what I do best. I want to grow my empire and take over the world. I call myself a mommy Entrepreneur because I am a first time mom and everything I do is for him, the reason I want to grow is to grow my passion into something beautiful and make everyone feel how they should and more important grow myself for my son so he has the life he deserves. I am always looking for new clients so whoever needs to be glammed up then come to me!
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
In the fashion world, it is never easy! There are sooooo many amazing artists and bloggers so it is sometimes hard to stick out. But I am always up for a challenge. When you are passionate about something you’re not going to stop until you get there. It’s been a really rough couple of months for me lately but everything happening is making me stronger. I am working on a lot of new exciting things with amazing brands so I can’t wait till I start taking over one brand at a time. A lot of things small.
Businesses struggle with no so to me those no were very hard to hear and it brings you down because you think you aren’t good enough. However, those “no we aren’t interested” makes me work 100% harder because I know I deserve it.

So my company Makeup By Curls is myself. Glamming up someone and styling them for any event. I specialize in makeup, coordinating outfits. And making that person feel confident! I am known for being very personal and driven. If I’m your glam girl and you want to take about every issue with me while I do your makeup or style. I am here for you if you want to nap the whole time then go ahead I’ll wake you when I’m done. It’s whatever makes my client happy. I’m most proud of how far I’m coming along and I can’t wait to see what the future holds because I know I’m unique, I Definitely put my heart and soul to my business and the styling or glam I do for every client.
Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
I feel like Miami is a good place for businesses especially makeup or styling because we always have some fashion show going on, but also the culture is so diverse that it definitely can make you stand out. I would recommend starting here and expanding to of course the major cities like New York, LA, Milan, Paris which is where I want to expand to next.
