Meet Madison Workman of Tenet Healthcare in Coral Gables

Today we’d like to introduce you to Madison Workman.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Madison. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
From a young age, I always knew I wanted to work in a capacity to serve my community and to make a meaningful difference in the lives of others. I have always been a “people-person” and nothing makes me happier than seeing people achieve their goals personally and professionally. I watched my mother as a Substance Abuse Counselor and saw how much she enjoyed helping her clients overcome their addictions to live the highest quality of life possible. This also motivated me to pursue a career where I can have a positive impact on peoples lives every day. My passion for healthcare started in high school and followed me through college where I volunteered and worked at various hospitals and clinics. This opened my eyes to how dynamic, yet challenged our healthcare system was and I wanted to be part of creating solutions. After I received my Master’s Degree from the University of Florida, I began my career with Tenet Healthcare as an Administrative Fellow and earned several incredible opportunities to where I am today.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
When in life does everything go as planned, right? That’s where we grow and learn the most about ourselves and about the power of resilience. I think the best balance is doing something you are passionate about and good at because the sky is the limit. Passion and hard work will always beat talent, because it’s a fire in the belly that cannot be extinguished. Passion is not something you can teach or force on someone, it’s either inside of you or it’s not.

I am also a big believer in the saying “If you love what you do, you will never work a day in your life”; this is so true because if you love what you do and who you work with it makes your “job” meaningful and fun.  Things have not always gone as planned for me as I have had to overcome many hurdles in my life and career while pursing my passion, but no matter how hard I fall I always get back up. Having grit and always looking at the glass half full is my recipe to overcome anything.

We’d love to hear more about what you do.
The best way I can describe my role is being the caregiver to the caregiver. My ultimate job is making sure that all of my employees and medical staff have the right equipment, resources, and support available to provide the highest quality care to our patients. I am constantly amazed at the empathy and care my team provides day in and day out to our patients. As COO, I wear many hats and I am very fortunate to work with such an engaged Administrative team, medical staff, and hospital staff. I work on everything from major construction projects, process improvement, quality improvement initiatives, and service line development to name a few. I would say I am known for my high energy, enthusiasm, and go-getter attitude. I lead by example and everyone in my organization is important to me. I do not let titles define myself or anyone because we all play an integral role in the organization and being a great leader is about the human connection. I am most proud of my hospital’s commitment to providing high-quality care and creating a patient-centric environment. We are constantly looking for ways to connect with the community and acquire new technology to enhance quality care.

Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
I have been fortunate to have numerous mentors thus far in my life. First and foremost, my mother. She is one of the strongest individuals and raised my brothers and me on her own. She instilled the values I exhibit today such as always doing the right thing, the power of resilience and being kind to everyone. I am the man today because of how my mother raised me. Secondly, my brothers. I am a triplet and we have been very close since birth. I am extremely proud of both my brothers because they are both doing what they love. Growing up with all three of us kept us on our toes and we always encouraged each other to achieve more than we could dream of. They keep me motivated every day! Professionally, I have been blessed with amazing mentors. There are many, but a few include Marsha Powers, Manny Linares, Cristina Jimenez, and Ellington Jones. Each of these individuals has supported me since day one at Tenet. They have continued to support me growing as a leader, empowered me by taking on larger projects/responsibilities, and trusted me to get the job done to the best of my ability.
