Meet Madison Wald of Free Flow Studio Moksha House in East Fort Lauderdale

Today we’d like to introduce you to Madison Wald.

Madison, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I am the co-owner of Free Flow Studio Moksha House! I am 26 years of age, and I have been on a spiritual path since graduating high school. I have read many books, attending seminars, self-improvement/mindfulness training, workshops, and temples that have all contributed to shaping the woman that I am today. This, along with life’s many ups and downs, trials and tribulations, and challenging experiences have, too, shaped who I am. The way that I live my life is by ALWAYS asking to be guided from love and to serve this world and lead us all towards peace for all. I always knew that this was my purpose in life, but I didn’t always know exactly how it would “look” or “how” I would be making that difference. I’m also a huge believer in energy and how who I am being and the energy I put out is creating a ripple effect. I believe that simply smiling at a stranger could, somehow, have them feel more loved and acknowledged and maybe impact them in a way I will never even know.

I always knew my purpose was to help people. I have fine-tuned it a lot after graduating with my Bachelor’s degree in Sociology and have been blessed to have different doors open and people in my life that guided me to what I do now. I took a “professional” job right after graduating college because at the time, I was tired of working in a restaurant and still had this limiting-belief around how “the right thing,” or “what I’m supposed to do” is to take a 9-5pm job for a successful company. I truly thought that my worth was in this “success.” During this time, I was also teaching 1-2 Acrobatic yoga classes a week with my best friend, and now business partner, Robert. After taking that job and driving 1 hour to work every day, I found myself in another spiritual awakening. I was reading “Daring Greatly” by Brene Brown and “The Big Leap” at the time. I also had an experience around the same time of reading these books where I found myself wanted to create art and paint something even though I always told myself that I wasn’t an artist and that I “wasn’t good at making art.” I never allowed myself just to create for the Joy of it. I felt this urge to create and I sat down in my friend’s in-home art studio and asked her to support me with color and guidance as I let my heart guide me into a creation that just felt FREE. I was PRESENT, without attachment to the end result. This was the first initial spark of my vision for Free Flow Studio Moksha House.

After this, every drive to work, I would have visions come through of this space of love, community, creativity, flow and spirituality where there were classes and music and vibrancy and workshops and connection. A space where people felt SAFE. A space where people could do what they always felt like they couldn’t do because it didn’t matter if they looked good doing it or had it all together. A place to heal and express, in whichever way you choose. (Yoga, dance, art, reiki, etc.) Robert and I are very different people who work very well together. We realized this after practicing and teaching acro together for a couple of years. So when this initial spark for the Vision of the studio came about, I presented the idea to Robert and together we formed what the studio is today.

After working a lot on my fears and making a big leap to trust myself and go for it, I quit my job a few months later, went back to serving in a restaurant, and worked towards my business plan and opening the business. Along the way, I was still teaching Acrobatic Yoga, Children’s Yoga, and getting my REIKI healing certification. I finally, with the support of so many beautiful people in my life, was blessed to open the studio in Feb 2020. With some challenges and hurdles in the year of 2020 and navigating owning a new business in the middle of a pandemic, we are still in operation today and stronger than ever. Every single person who comes into our studio expresses their gratitude and love for the space. I can feel people relaxing, healing, and believing in themselves (for maybe the first time in their lives.) Every single person who works here as an instructor is full of love and passion for people and for their craft. I know we are special. I know we are a contribution to this planet, and every day I pray to be grounded in my vision and to be shown how to serve.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Haha, Wooo. A smooth road? Yes and no. We opened our studio in February 2020, meaning we were only open for a month and a half before closing in March due to COVID19. We were closed for three months while still needing to pay our bills and keep the energy going so we could thrive when we reopened. We reopened in June and at first, it was looking promising because of the excitement from things opening up again, but after a short-lived week of success, the fear circulating in the media and the Virus still being very real and present affected us a lot. It was definitely a struggle for a while to pay bills and know that we would make it through this. Now, and for the past couple of months, things have picked up a lot. I really, and finally, feel like there is hope and we WILL make it through this and continue to share our gifts and grow. So yes, it’s been challenging and a little bumpy, but also, it’s been divine timing with so many lessons, blessings, and support along the way. Just making a difference for one person makes it all worth it. And we have truly been blessed to stay afloat knowing that many businesses have closed during this time.

I also think that learning how to navigate anything new can be a bit bumpy sometimes. For me, personally, this is the first business I have owned. So, learning how to stay balanced in my life, honor my truth, not get burnt out, and how to be the most healed and loving version of myself possible comes with its own challenges along the way. All of the challenges have just been opportunities for deeper healing. So, I am always grateful.

Please tell us about Free Flow Studio Moksha House.
So, I believe I went a bit into the vision with the first question, but to sum it up: The vision of Free Flow Studio Moksha House is to create a space where you can experience freedom, peace and joy by being fully present. Our space was created for you to express and explore your creativity while discovering the passions that you may not have even known that you had. It is also a safe space to try new things or continue your favorite practice while letting go of the notion of “perfectionism.” We believe when you have an outlet to be present, remember you are love, and to express yourself, a result of healing, peace and joy can occur. We hold weekly classes such as Painting, Ceramics, Yoga, Dance, Reiki and Acro yoga! All of our classes are mindful and deeply rooted in our notion, “come as you are.” We create family here. We are also a Divine Collaboration space and a Venue space so people from the community that are healers, instructors, and have various gifts to share, can come in and use the space to have their own workshop or event on our monthly calendar! We also offer private room rentals.

The thing that I’m most proud of as a company is that we are a judgment-free space, and the way people feel when they come here. We get to hear how people’s lives are improving and that they feel like themselves for the first time in a really long time, or in some cases, for the first time ever. This, along with the team we have built here is what I’m most proud of. We operate with integrity and love. I think all of these things combined and being the first space that I have heard of to offer such a variety of classes and events within the domains of creativity, flow, spirituality and wellness, all contribute to what sets us apart from “others.” (but really, there are no others, cause were all 1 😉

If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
Nothing.
