Today we’d like to introduce you to Maceo.
Maceo is a 21-year-old artist originally from Los Angeles, California, and currently residing in Orlando, Florida. Since relocating to Orlando in 2012, Maceo has graced the ears of many local listeners across the city with performances of covers and original tunes – musically captivating all heeding audiences over the years. With a sultry voice, electric live performance skills, and an illuminating stage presence, Maceo sets the standard for artists that are passionate about their artistry everywhere.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Most things in life that you really want to or need to obtain in life is going to have bumps and obstacles in the road, ya know. For me specifically, the majority of my serious musical journey has had money issues, a lot of inner demons and mental health stuff I’m battling. Growing pains I see it as though. But I’m so sensitive my emotions and those of the people around me it’s always a bit heavier.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I’m a musician. Singer-songwriter/rapper, I don’t know. I just do whatever I feel feels good but most people know me for singing. My blend of genres I think is something that sets me apart. I like to think that I’m equal parts as good a singer as I am an MC or rapper (I find it weird calling myself a “rapper”. I don’t know why) and as I grow in both those areas I experiment more and more with sounds. I don’t hear much like it. It’s cool.
Do you any memories from childhood that you can share with us?
In all honesty the majority of my favorite memories just revolve around times where I’ve heard some of my favorite songs. A lot with my dad. Waking up to him cooking eggs and toast and hearing Golden by Jill Scott for the first time. The first time hearing Damian Marley’s Welcome to Jamrock. The first time I heard Mos Def. Those memories are like movie scenes to me.
