Today we’d like to introduce you to Patty Perez.
Patty , let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
As a kid, I fell in love with entrepreneurship. My father was an entrepreneur and I loved how he ran his business and how he would work to accomplish his goals and also have time to be a family man. I knew that I was destined to be a business owner. In high school, I began selling baked goods and making birthday decorations. When I was in college, I would make handmade jewelry and sell them at local craft shows. I quickly learned that I had a passion for starting a business and watching them flourish. These businesses were just a hobby but once I finished college and earned my MBA, I knew there was no other option for me then to have my own business. In school, I learned that accounting is the heart of the business and if you understood it you can help other businesses focus on their business and I could take care of their accounting. I gained most of my experience working at local CPA firm Balwant Cheema, CPA. I am forever grateful for all they have taught me and thanks to them I felt ready to go on my own. In September 2017 I started Lotus Accounting Group. I have been able to build my dream business and help out small businesses in South Florida.
In the most recent years, I’ve met some amazing women that have really impacted my life. I have come to realize that we can all learn from each other’s experiences. I have created womenwhomotiv8 in order to build a community of women that empower each other and to be able to network with each other. The point of this community is for us women to be able to talk about subjects that we often feel like we shouldn’t talk about like post-partum depression, work-life-motherhood-wife balance, confidence in the workplace, relationship support and finding the courage to start your own business. I want for us women to learn and empower one another instead of struggling in silence. For more info please follow my passion project @womenwhomotiv8 on Instagram, Facebook and Twitter.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It wasn’t always smooth sailing but in my mind, failure was not an option. I knew I had to make it work! I met with several businesses and I got rejected many times but that wasn’t going to stop me. I continued to pursue new clients and I was finally able to build my client base.
Please tell us about Lotus Accounting Group.
My business is a remote accounting firm. We specialize in bookkeeping, payroll services, tax preparation, administrative support, and Quickbooks training. We are known for caring about our clients and really wanting them to succeed. My passion is helping business grow and as there accountant, I feel as if their success is mine too. I am proud to see my client’s ideas come to fruition.
If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
If I could start over I would’ve started sooner. It took me years to gain the courage to start my business because of fear. The day I quit my full-time job I started setting up my home office and I found a notebook I had written about 2 years ago manifesting the thought of having my own business and doing exactly what I was doing that day. At that moment I was so proud of myself for taking that step and anytime I run into any fearful moments I remember my first day as an entrepreneur.
