Meet Lotta Collard of Key Performance in Delray Beach

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lotta Collard.

Lotta, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I was working crazy hours as an IT project manager in the late 90s when my husband and I decided to start a family. I knew my career choice was not so compatible with raising children so I looked for ways to create more independent and flexible work conditions while still using my current skillset and experience. After much thought, I decided to start my own business training other individuals and companies to become proficient and effective in the various aspects of project management. Eventually, my company also became an education provider for the Project Management Institute, so we could add certification prep courses to our offerings.

Two years and two children later, I had two employees and a partnership with a major local university. The partnership turned out to be mutually beneficial in many aspects, and it still is, 15 years later. Together, we are one of the largest providers of project management training in South Florida, and we have broaden our expertise and portfolio to include lean, six sigma, business analysis and business process management as well. The people I work with are awesome, we have a nice team, and we have been growing steadily throughout the years.

I now have four children ranging from 8 to 17 years old, and I have been able to balance work and family nicely. I even get to take my family to my native country, Sweden, every summer vacation. Life is good!

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
If it had been a smooth road, I would not be successful today. You learn the most from your mistakes and from tackling issues along the way.

The hardest part has been to figure out how to grow and manage every aspect of the business. Website, marketing, sales, accounting, payroll etc. In a small business, there are many hats to wear and, at the end of the day, you are the one responsible for everything.

Please tell us about Key Performance.
Key Performance offers training courses and consulting services in the areas of project management, business analysis, lean, six sigma and business process improvement. We offer several certification courses and prep courses for professional certifications offered by the Project Management institute (PMI).

Our trainers and coaches are true experts in their specific fields with lots of relevant experience. Most of us have worked together for many years now. We are a small company which facilitates flexibility and accessibility.

Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
I grew up in Stockholm, Sweden. I had a happy childhood. My favorite memories are probably from the summer vacations, long and light summer nights, riding around on my bike, feeling strong and free. As if the possibilities were endless and you could do anything and everything you set your mind to. I miss that feeling.
