Meet Lindsay Kaplan of Lindsay Kaplan Photography

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lindsay Kaplan.

Lindsay Kaplan

Hi Lindsay, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today.
Growing up in a small town in Massachusetts, I always saw something bigger for myself. I would picture myself in a big city, bright lights, and living the dream. I was constantly made fun of and teased for the big lifestyle that I dreamed of, but that was the thing about me. I was always different. I always went at the beat of my own drum and that never bothered me.

So at 20 years old, I said goodbye to Tyngsboro, Massachusetts, and took a one-way flight to Miami, FL. A place I had never even visited, but I had heard someone talking about their vacation to Miami and it sounded like a dream. THAT’S IT, that’s where I’m going and I took the leap.

A few years in the hospitality industry led to sleepless nights, lots of partying, a poor diet, and a very unhealthy lifestyle. Don’t get me wrong, for someone who was about to turn 21, I was living my best life. It was the most fun I had ever had in my life, but I knew if I kept down this path, I would eventually need to return home.

I found this indoor cycling gym in Miami Beach and I became obsessed. I would go early before work or later night afterwards. To my surprise, they were holding open auditions a few weeks later. I thought I could totally do this! Maybe it will turn into a career and the rest is history. I left hospitality for good. Goodbye to working 14-hour days, working until 5 am, and being around the party scene.

I worked for many popular group fitness gyms in Miami and loved every second of it. That is until I landed my dream job as Head of Talent working at Echelon. It’s true what they say, if you love what you do, you’ll never work a day in your life. Along with teaching classes, I now get to train, develop, and inspire new trainers that come into this space and it’s the most rewarding and creative job I’ve ever had.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Absolutely not. Fitness is a straight HUSTLE. Especially when you’re new. Teaching at one gym is never enough financially so you find yourself teaching early in the morning 5 am-7 am at one place, a different gym to cover the afternoons 12-3 pm, and probably ANOTHER gym to cover the night classes 7 pm-9 pm. This is just to make ends meet!

It’s weekends, it’s holidays, it’s time away from family because guess what your busiest classes are? Weekends and holidays. You don’t want to miss the money you can make during those times. That prevents traveling to see your family and/or missing special moments because you’re trying to pick up as many classes as possible. I wouldn’t trade it for the world. The hustle is all part of the excitement and the work you put in to get to the position where I am today.

We’ve been impressed with Lindsay Kaplan Photography, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
On top of teaching some bomb fitness classes, I recently took up photography, because why not?! I have always been passionate about capturing raw, organic moments ever since I was younger. The pictures I used to print out and hang on my wall, no one understood why, but it was art to me.

Being a fitness instructor, you have to be creative when putting programming together. Being a photographer gives you the space to be creative in a totally different way and I’m loving every second of it. I specialize in capturing kids, family, and lifestyle moments. But it’s not just about the photos; it’s about the experience.

When you choose me as your photographer, you’re not just hiring a photographer; you’re embarking on a journey filled with laughter, adventure, and unforgettable memories. I pride myself on creating a relaxed and enjoyable atmosphere, where my clients can truly be themselves and let their personality shine. My attention to detail and passion for people is truly what sets my work apart from others in this space.

How can people work with you, collaborate with you, or support you?
As a photographer, there are several ways people can work with me, collaborate with me, or support me! Booking a photoshoot, referring clients, and follow me on my social media page @LindsayKaplanPhoto.

I also love to collaborate on creative projects. I’m always open to collaborating with other creatives such as models, stylists, make-up artists, and designers, on a collaborative photoshoot or creative project. Collaborations allow us to combine our talents and create something truly unique and inspiring!
