Today we’d like to introduce you to Lady Indigo.
Hi Lady, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Born in the salty beaches of Havana, Cuba, in 1992, raised in South Florida since the early 2000’s, my journey into the world of the arts began by my artistic skills that would one day lead me into the world of capturing light. I studied Fine-Arts in college, where I mastered the skills of drawing and illustration, even though I suffered many years with Arthritis in my hands.
I had a fascination for capturing the perfect moments my eyes would see and I remember thinking ” If only I could capture this moment when I shut my eyes”. One fateful day my aunt gifted me a Canon Coolpix 180, sparking a lifelong fascination for capturing the world.
From that day forward my camera became an extension of myself, documenting nature, urban life and architecture. Although I have outgrown that original camera, my visual narratives still seek to capture the essence of life and the world around us. Each photograph or artistic project is a medium through which I can unveil the hidden beauty of the world around me.
In my present life I combine my mastery of painting and photography into digital creations for to inspire the world. Blending these forms of art allow me to capture moments, emotions and beauty in a single work of art.. Through the lens, I find creativity, inspiration, and a profound connection to the world around me.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The journey has been anything but smooth, and I’ve faced my fair share of challenges along the way. I’ve lived with arthritis in my hands for as long as I can remember—an especially difficult obstacle as a visual artist. I also navigated complex immigration and political hurdles while escaping a communist regime, an experience that shaped both my resilience and perspective. Like many, I struggled through the ups and downs of adolescence, but I also had the added challenge of carving out a space for myself as a woman in the photography industry, constantly working to prove my worth in a male-dominated field. These hardships have shaped who I am today and continue to fuel my passion and determination.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
My photography blends conceptual art with editorial, modeling, and architectural elements to create images that invite the viewer to look beyond the surface. I’m drawn to subjects like cars, structures, and people—each offering unique lines, forms, and stories that I strive to capture with depth and intention. What sets my work apart is my ability to fuse artistic vision with technical precision, crafting images that are both visually striking and emotionally resonant. I’m especially proud of the way my work sparks thought and conversation, encouraging viewers to see everyday subjects in a new light.
Is there anyone you’d like to thank or give credit to?
I’ve been fortunate to have several mentors who guided me when I first entered the world of photography. That said, being a woman in the industry meant I had to work even harder to prove myself. My mentors didn’t go easy on me, nor did they hand out praise lightly. Instead, they focused on teaching me what truly matters—mastering the fundamentals, staying consistent, and always pushing to grow. Their tough love shaped my resilience and helped me build a solid foundation. I’m also grateful for the friendships I’ve formed with fellow photographers along the way. Sharing ideas and experiencing different styles of photography with them has been an inspiring part of my journey.
