Today we’d like to introduce you to Kimberly Mardy.
Kimberly, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
Growing up, I always kept my hair permed and straight. If I have seen a centimeter of curls from my roots I would immediately grab a perm box. It was like this for a long time and I didn’t have an issue with it until I graduated high school in 2015. Yes, my hair was permed and fresh but my ends were dry and brittle. However, it wasn’t even the appearance of my hair that really made me want to start over from scratch. The honest truth was that I wasn’t happy at the moment and I needed a fresh start. I felt like I was literally worrying so much about my hair and just one day in 2016, I chopped everything off. Lol, it was a legit temper tantrum that set it off for me. The instant I did it I was like OMG, there were so many patches on my head but no worries it literally took some time to grow back evenly. That was only because I decided to start doing DIY Products for myself. When I say my hair went from a low boy cut to afro puff in less than five months, it’s no exaggeration. I sat down and really questioned myself, I asked questions like “what is my passion”, “Is this a purpose from God”, And “did I really throw a temper tantrum or was this all purposeful”? Kimbella was a nickname I picked up from high school and ever since then, I kept it on my Instagram but I was like, let me add some spice and call my purpose “Kimbella’s Kinks.” So, that’s where the name came from. I truly believed that it was all for a reason because I’ve been holding on to that sit down for almost three years and have been testing out products since then. I hope to finally launch towards the end of 2019.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It hasn’t been smooth and I never expected it to be, I’ve been discouraged before by friends and families. I think that the biggest struggle I had was believing that I can really accomplish something.
Please tell us about Kimbella’s Kinks.
I’m a creator and I love to create Care products. At first, it was for myself, but now, I’d love to share that with others. I specialize in a few other things but in this season “Kimbella Kinks” is one of my main priorities. We are all set apart somehow but what makes me peculiar is that when I use the word handmade products, I’m not only talking about making my products by hand. I’m elaborating on the fact that I will not compromise and will always stay true to myself and the brand
Any predictions for the industry over the next few years?
I see my industry growing, of course. Hopefully, a lot of big-time clients and supporters.
