Today we’d like to introduce you to KiD WaV.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Kid Wav. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
Hey, so my names KiD WaV. I came up with the name from my neighborhood nickname wavy I wanted originality so I cut the “y” and said “wav” referencing the highest form of downloaded music. The kid comes from my older brother he calls me “kid” because of I’m a killer-in-disguise. Well, my journey started at the end of my high school days in 2010 being a fan of my best friends in our rap group Stone Age Taliban. I used to swear I couldn’t rap but still practiced on the side until I felt ready to show my magic; eventually, as any group life moved us around, but my boy sayitaintdreteezy & splizzylogan kept the energy and saw something in me I didn’t. Fast forward after a lot of hard work, ups and downs, and some of the hardest decisions a person has to make I quit my 9-5 job went on the road with splizzy Logan until unexpectedly one day splizzy was in a horrific car accident that left him in a coma for eight months I was the first person the hospital called to identify him, but it’s so odd when I saw him looking lifeless something told me he was gone be alright and I need to make some s*** shake. So I ran off to new York with $250 in my pocket and linked up with the only person I knew in the game with a studio my boy Ben Jayne (producer of new freezer), but the catch is I literally met him personally 6 months before his big break out in Harlem so within that time frame I recorded a few songs with him one specifically being “Benjayne Mobbin” where I free-styled a hook an verse next thing you know he goes major the label( island records) ask him to put that song out with the goat yung gleesh from d.c on it I get a call with a flight to la for a publishing deal and to shoot a music video I was hella siked honestly I still am it’s been a great two years independent doing what I love working for me but, officially Nov. 9th 2019 will be my first year as a published writer with a major label. All I can say is both paths of the fork lead to your goals just focus for better luck choosing.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Not an easy road the hardest part was believing in myself enough to sacrifice my comfort and taking that initial leap of faith. another big struggle for me was not having my bro splizzy Logan around for guidance and support, but the list is long I could go on forever from heartbreak and pulling myself out of depression to being shut down and scammed by marketers but it’s a learning process so it’s whatever.
Please tell us about your business.
Well, my business is writing and recording lyrics I’m a musical artist as well as clothing designer my clothing line will drop spring of 2020. I’m most proud of myself and the support of my team seeing everyone working towards a common goal. What I feel sets me apart is my diversity and vulnerability I walk in and people can just feel my presence.
So, what’s next? Any big plans?
So in the near future I plan on booking more out of state shows to expand my market and simply grow into the best me I can be I have a major record out now “kidwav berserk” killing it on Spotify & apple music right now I have a lot of independent music ready to drop as well a few more with the label so it’s going to be a good year for the music 2020 as well I’m dropping my custom made distressed clothing line men & women t’s spring 2020.
