Today we’d like to introduce you to Kevani Wilson.
Kevani, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I’m a happily engaged 24 year-old mom and entrepreneur! I am also the founder, CEO and owner of Cool Mommy! Fashion has always been my passion since I was a little girl and all my life I have dreamed of owning my own boutique. Last year, I turned those hopes and dreams into goals and deadlines! I got started by doing my research in the field I wanted to work in, which was women and children’s clothing & accessories. I also took courses on various subjects to learn how to advertise/market. Another thing I’ve done that helped me understand what was trending in the fashion market was, I looked up what all the hottest celebs were wearing and what the top fashion brands were putting out. After my research, I made sure everything I was doing, I was doing the right way. I purchased my domain, my website and I made sure no other business was under the name “Cool Mommy”. Finally, after all the behind the scenes work was done, I was ready to start selling products and I made sure every product I was going to sell, would be sold at an affordable price!
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Working online definitely has its highs and lows! It hasn’t been a smooth road, but not necessarily “bumpy” either. Two obstacles I ran into was: 1. finding products that not only I like, but also products other moms would like as well, so I had to be pretty open about what I would be offering; 2. Shipping. It was the most nerve-racking challenge. Why? Because in this day in age, everyone wants to purchase their item and receive it as quickly as possible. Some customers would want their items shipped overnight, others possibly within 3 days, and that, for me, was not possible at that time, due to high shipping rates! The quickest I could get a product delivered to a customer’s home was 2 weeks. After I explained the shipping would take at least 2 weeks, 3 weeks tops, my customers understood! Now, they all know what to expect.
Cool Mommy – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Cool Mommy is an online boutique that aims at bridging the gap between the trendy and conservative, creative and traditional mom. I offer women and children’s clothing and accessories. I also offer essential items for your home! I specialize in clothing for women and children, my Cool Kids collection is my favorite! I am known for being a young entrepreneur who stepped out on faith, shedding light on all the opportunities that are available if you just step out and act on your dreams! I am most proud of my customers! Having a steady clientele of women who believe in my vision and support me all the way, listening to my goals via social media, reaching out to me telling me, I inspired them to focus on their dreams and lastly, spending their hard earned money with me is really amazing! What sets me apart from others, is that I’m REAL. My passion is real, my love for my boutique is real! My family is real, my commentary, ideas, opinions, etc. are all very real! I want to showcase the real moms! The moms you don’t see casted on TV and social media. I want the world to see how beautiful we all are as mothers.
What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
The proudest moment of my career was when I had my first photo shoot! Everyone was so encouraging, involved, social and flat out nice! The energy in the atmosphere was very eccentric and I will always remember that! Huge thank you to the models, photographers and makeup artist.
