Today we’d like to introduce you to Kathy Tyrrell.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I have always been passionate about Decor, it is in my DNA. I built my company from the ground up investing my whole heart with passion and desire to succeed as a small business. In December 2001, I walked away from a corporate job and decided to make an investment on a small business. In March 2002, I bought Cypress Cafe, a breakfast and lunch Cafe inside a corporate complex.
On the fall of 2002, our Cafe was hired to do a couple catering jobs and the clients requested my help with decor that included linens, florals and rentals. I totally fell in love and enjoyed the process.
As an adult, I have always gone out of my way to have my house fully decorated and pay close attention to decor trends. As a young girl, I was always moving furniture and rearranging my room and toys around all the time.
Within the next few months after those first jobs assisting my catering clients with the florals, rentals and design of the events, it was clear to me that Decor is what I really wanted to do and focus in the near future.
In late 2003, I sold the Cafe and started preparing a business plan to create a full decor company. In 2004 I founded Celebrations by Kathy. 16 years later, I am still passionate, dedicated and committed to transform ordinary spaces into elegant environments.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Not at all. Building a company from the ground up has not been easy at all. A lot of hard work, planning and tough lessons are just a small part of what it has taken to built Celebrations by Kathy Inc. into the company that we are today. The 2008 recession took a hard hit on the Special Event Industry. Thankfully we made it through those hard times. We implemented multiple revenue streams and invested in our client relationships, like the Hotels, Venues and Planning companies to preserve the integrity and keep the value of the important source that they represented…
So, as you know, we’re impressed with Celebrations by Kathy Inc. DBA as CBK Events – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
We are a specialty boutique Draping and Lighting company.
We specialized in room and tent transformation utilizing pipe and drape, which are self-support fabric draping systems. Lighting elements, that include chandeliers, up lights, bistro lights, gobos, intelligent lights and pin spots.
We service all South Florida and we have two locations, Boynton Beach and Miami.
I believe that my company growth and success steams from old fashion values, hard work and good ethics.
So, what’s next? Any big plans?
I believe the formula to stay on top and be a leader in your industry is definitely to keep evolving and educating yourself and your team. Invest in the latest technology and new equipment. Keep up with the new trends and refresh your website with the latest images, and keep up with your brand and social media are a must.
My CBK future is really exciting. New equipment and new fabrics will be arriving October 2020. Season 2021 looks promising. With a lot of weddings and special events rescheduling from spring and summer 2020, plus the new business coming in our early 2021 is pretty full, and we are beyond grateful giving the circumstances…
Last, for the past year I have been working on a Sister company. Kreation Design Consultants. As I mentioned, I am passionate about decor. In the last year, I put myself through school and have being working diligently on establishing a Home Decor Company that offers Home Decor, Home Staging and Professional Organizing. We are now live in social media and recently opened our office and showroom in Boynton Beach.
