Today we’d like to introduce you to Kairo Lavoe.
Kairo, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I first ever recorded a song when I was about 11-12 years old with my cousin just messing around on a Compaq Presario using Winamp and voice recorder over beats from DMX, Outkast, & Dr. Dre, but I didn’t really take it too serious until I was about 20-21 when I met Just This Crew out of Fountainbleau. Seeing them rock shows was inspiring to me and pushed me to start recording and putting out music which eventually led me to working with them. Them being from my neighborhood and knowing of them had it all make more sense. Since then, I’ve put out records, music videos, and performed independently in Florida, New York, & California. Over the years, I found recording to be pricey so I made the decision to go to school for Audio in 2016 at SAE Institute in Miami where I learned how to record, mix and master.
On the downtime from internships, I started messing around with production and fell in love with it, so ever since Ive been balancing between being an artist, producer, & engineer. That growth helped me put out my record TRANQUILO, produced mainly by my bro Jay Lucas, which was the first project I mixed on my own. After that, I followed with the Fuego Chris EP and most recently Sazon Baby Vol 1. These records have shown most of my growth as an artist and producer, and have also been my most popular works so Im excited to release my upcoming project, TRANQUILANDIA.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
I don’t think Its ever been or will ever be smooth road but it’s definitely been fun and interesting to experience. I’d say staying inspired is a struggle a lot of artists deal with because we put everything into this. I remind myself at the end of the day to not put so much pressure on myself with expectations and just love what I do because that was the main reason why I started.
Can you give our readers some background on your music?
I feel like what sets me apart from most is being true to myself, my passion and roots. TRANQUILO went from being a bar to a song to an album, and now it’s like my ideology or mantra. I bring my Latin roots into play with either song titles, lyrics, or instrumentation on production, giving it that flavor or Sazòn. I bring you into my world with it.
Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
I’ve been lucky to have been blessed with the right people by my side and also being true to myself. Getting lost in your own sauce is hella easy, but luckily I got the elements in my life that keep me grounded and always prepared for what comes.
