Today we’d like to introduce you to Julissa Henriquez and Maria Fittipaldi.
Julissa and Maria, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Julimark Sweet Creations and Catering is a family-owned and operated small business. My mom, Maria, had been making Dominican cakes for over 15 years. In 2016, I asked my mom if she wanted to turn this passion into a business and she said “YES” without hesitating. I had studied digital marketing and graphic design for a few years and decided to create a logo, start Instagram and Facebook pages, and post one picture of a dessert table she had recently made for a friend.
That party generated more customers and I was able to upload even more pictures. As the customer list grew, the social media pages became more popular and soon we were getting customers who found us online. This was such a big deal for us! We had only been making cakes and desserts for people who were referred to us. The moment someone messaged us because they found us online was the moment we realized that this business was going to take off quickly.
We received many requests for cakes we had never tried making before, therefore we started taking classes and accepting the challenging cakes that came our way. Every cake we make is a learning experience. My mom and I make a great team and we are able to overcome any obstacles. We have only gotten better with time and experience.
As our clientele grew, we started receiving more dessert table and food requests. Within a year, we obtained our catering license in order to provide all the services our customers requested.
Thanks to the love and support of our family and friends, we have been able to grow. It truly takes a village to make a dream come true. This experience has brought us all closer together.

The next step for us is to continue growing and providing delicious cakes, desserts, and food for our community.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Every step in a business is a learning curve. We started the business by making traditional Dominican cakes. Styles change in the cake world just like in fashion. There is always a new trend to keep up with. When we first started, customers would ask us for cakes that we had no idea how to make. Thankfully, we have YouTube and Google lol We never say no to a challenge. Even if it takes us a few sleepless nights, we will deliver what the customer requests.

We provide cakes, desserts, and catering for all occasions. We are especially known for our delicious Dominican cakes. We also make traditional Cuban and Dominican desserts. Our catering menu consists of Cuban, Dominican, Puertorican, Italian, and American dishes.
We are most proud of our attention to detail with every order.
What sets us apart from other bakers and caterers is that we make everything with love. We cook the food as if though we were cooking for our own family. Our desserts will warm your heart. Our cakes are not only beautiful, but they are freshly baked for each order and taste delicious. We have many flavors to choose from.
What were you like growing up?
Julissa – I studied music all my life. My passion for music led me to New World School of the Arts high school where I was taught discipline and hard work will always pay off. My goal has always been to take care of my family. I’m very focused on that goal at the moment.
Maria – My family is my life. I have always made sacrifices to make sure they were taken care of. Sometimes you need to put off your dreams in order to take care of your children. My dream was to open a bakery one day, but it was never the right time. Once my kids were on their own, that spark lit up again.
