Meet Joshua Flynn

Today we’d like to introduce you to Joshua Flynn.

Every artist has a unique story. Can you briefly walk us through yours?
Grew up in Washington state. Was addicted to video games and didn’t feel that I had a purpose in life till I moved to Virginia and picked up a camera my last year of living there. Used to have no friends, but because of the community StreetmeetDC in Washington DC, it enables me to easily network with other creatives. I then moved back to Seattle and was very eager to start a similar community in Seattle.

Well, that’s what I did I started StreetmeetWA where we consistently have 200 to 300 creatives show up to our meets once a month. I’m now working with and creating a community with Leyefe, a startup company in Seattle that makes it easier to sell your images to your client as a photographer.

My goal is to help the typical photographer that doesn’t have their business together but wants to live off their art.

Please tell us about your art.
My art is typically in an urban environment. I love creating in the city. Most importantly, I really enjoy working with people. Doesn’t matter what they do, what color they are, or if they have experience or not in modeling.

I enjoy meeting new people and making new friends. I tell most of the people I work with that the shoot and pictures aren’t a big deal but to just have fun and grasp the environment and express themselves. My job is to just capture them the best I can.

I also enjoy being by myself too. Photography is the few things I can go to where I don’t think about anything else. I can go explore my city alone or sit in the mountains and capture photos of the Milky Way and relax.

Do you have any advice for other artists? Any lessons you wished you learned earlier?
Absolutely!

Make sure you are doing the type of photography you love.

Create opportunities for yourself and don’t wait for them.

And if you’re still working somewhere, you aren’t happy. Take the leap.. do what you love! It might hurt for a bit, but it will pay off later, and you’ll be happy.

How or where can people see your work? How can people support your work?
You can find my work, of course on Instagram @flynnpnw.

I’ve procrastinated getting a website for way too long, but one day it will come to life.

People have supported my work by asking for prints through IG and of course booking me for photo shoots.
