Today we’d like to introduce you to Jose Alejandro Cortez.
Jose Alejandro, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I was given the opportunity to start MTM USA when I was graduating high school. I jumped on the opportunity and by the time I graduated, we had our first sale. MTM (Motoren-Technik-Mayer) is a tuning brand that specializes in modifying and creating parts for Audi, Volkswagen, Porsche, Lamborghini and Bentley among other VW group brands and partners.
As I started college at University of Miami, I partnered with ANSA Motorsports to be the new home for MTM allowing us to use their mechanics and facility to work on cars. We have since grown to be a national market player for tuning Audis and VWs in the United States. We also expanded to the Canadian market. Obviously doing college and running a company full time can be quite tiring and it hasn’t been an easy battle. Luckily I count on my amazing GF to keep me on track with school and on a great team of friends and employees that help me run MTM.
Aside from MTM, now I’m getting my self into my family’s business, which is based on Food Service (Sterling Foods INC, and Jim Group Inc). I am really excited for the future and what it holds. However, I am very aware that the path to success is a challenging path that never ends.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Dealing with a lot of people who looked at me as a kid instead as the owner of the company was infuriating. They thought they could take advantage of me. Sometimes lack of funding was tough but we managed to get it to work.
Please tell us about MTM USA.
MTM USA LLC is the importer for MTM (Motoren Technik Mayer) products in the United States and Canada. MTM makes high-quality tuning products for Audi, Volkswagen, Porsche, Lamborghini and Bentley automobiles. We take pride in that our product is a premium offering in the market, which focuses on high quality of materials with proper TuV Certifications which guaranteed our high quality we put into these parts and software for the cars we modify We take pride in that our cars make it to high mileage with little to no issues, and continue to run with improved performance.
Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
Luck is always a factor. However, I think luck is something you have to find. Luck doesn’t just happen; you have to go out there and expose yourself so it can find you.
