Today we’d like to introduce you to John Bennardo.
John, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I have always been someone interested in videography. I had a camera when I was young, and I filmed pretty much everything. After I started filming events for friends, they marveled about how well the final product turned out, and suggested that I could be getting paid for video work like that. The business was born soon after.
Has it been a smooth road?
An aspiring video company has inherent struggles in its growth. The need for the proper equipment is an expense that startups must consider. I had to build my inventory little by little – an extra light here, microphones there, etcetera. Additionally, when I started, social media was non-existent, so advertising was problematic. Finding customers was a challenge, and so building a steady client base took time. Ultimately though, you do what you can, you remain patient, you do quality work with good customer service, and the business will grow.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with Immaginé Productions – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
My company is a video production company. Those seem to be a dime a dozen, but what I feel makes my company (and approach) unique is how I can go about a production without all the bells and whistles that others do. Some companies overcharge and overproduce; they bring more equipment and more crew than is needed, which makes it look like a bigger production than it sometimes has to be. I tell clients, “I won’t be backing production trucks up to your facility for this shoot”. I cater to companies with smaller video needs, and often, I can do them myself or with a colleague. I would be short-changing myself to say mine is a boutique production company, as I can handle big jobs, but I offer a less-stress production with quicker turnaround.
We do a lot of corporate work, which includes web commercials, testimonials, how-to videos, banquet videos (and we’ll shoot the banquet as well) and more. We also do a lot of youth and high school sports. I am most proud of the documentary work I’ve done through my company, which recently produced an award-winning documentary feature called The Two Dollar Bill Documentary.
Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
The great thing about south Florida is the fact that there is so much going on. The nice weather allows for more yearly outdoor activities, which means businesses have more opportunities for events that my company can cover. The weather also allows for shooting outdoors more easily – no need for snow gear or canceled shoot days due to the weather. It does rain a good deal, but when you total the shoot days year-round, this is the best place to be.
What do I like least? The traffic seems to be getting worse. I lived in Los Angeles for a while and the traffic there stinks. I’m starting to see similarities here, and it’s not trending well.
