Today we’d like to introduce you to Johanna Hedman.
Johanna, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
After graduating with an Economics degree from the University of Florida, I came down to Miami to work in International Banking. It was a safe and predictable choice but I always sensed that it wasn’t my true calling. After spending a decade in the banking industry, I realized I had to follow my true passion.
I have always been obsessed with eyebrows and I love making others feel good so when I came across microblading it was love at first sight. I started researching training but at that time nobody had heard of microblading in the US and there were no good trainings offered.
I finally found an artist in Brazil whose work I absolutely loved and I began calling every week for several months to get a chance to train with her. I think she realized how passionate and dedicated I was since I didn’t give up calling and I was very fortunate to be selected into a very competitive six-month apprenticeship program with her. It was incredibly hard but tremendously rewarding. After Brazil I decided to go to train in Europe, to practice the European style. I was on a quest to train with the best artists in the world and I went wherever they were. While training, I was completely captivated by the thought of creating the most natural looking microbladed eyebrows and began developing my own technique and the Hedman Method was born.
Since 2015 I am one of less than a dozen Certified Permanent Cosmetic Professionals (CPCP) in Florida.
It was very important for me to get board certified, because although it is not required, it is a tremendous responsibility when clients entrust their faces in my hands.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Spending six months during my apprenticeship in Brazil was incredibly intense and many days I worked 15 hour days. It was a challenge to be away from home but it was incredibly rewarding in the end.
Nobody spoke English and I just had to dive in and brush up my rusty college Portuguese.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Hedman Method Microblading Clinic – what should we know?
Every client is unique and so should their eyebrows be. There is no “one size fits all” when it comes to eyebrows. We are known to create the most natural looking eyebrow microblading results and customize every treatment, from eyebrow shape to color and density.
At the beginning of each treatment we spend a considerable amount of time to listen to our client’s goals and preferences and create a personal connection. No treatment is begun until the client feels ready and has approved the shape and color.
Our philosophy is to provide the highest quality by keeping our focus narrow rather than be “jack of all trades”. Therefore, we only offer eyebrow microblading, eyelash enhancement (permanent pigmentation in between the eyelashes), and permanent lip enhancement along with removal and corrections.
We work almost exclusively by word of mouth and are trusted by over twenty of Miami’s top doctors, who refer us their patients. We are very proud to have the highest Yelp rating for microblading in Miami and receiving the “People love us on Yelp” badge in both 2016 and 2017.
However, the most rewarding thing in the world is to see the joy on a client’s face when seeing their new eyebrows for the first time. Nothing beats seeing a cancer survivor regain their confidence after restoring their eyebrows.
