Meet Jodrick Boursiquot of JFLOWPIX in Brickell

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jodrick Boursiquot.

Jodrick, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
Hi, my name is Jodrick Nicolas Boursiquot. I was born in Haiti and came to live in the U.S when I was 11 years old. When I first came here I was excited to be there, I wasn’t afraid with the change of meeting new people and living in a country totally different from my home. The only sad part about it was leaving my mom, my dad and my whole family. I was raised in north Miami Beach went to middle school and high school now in college. I picked up English pretty fast, that’s all my aunt allowed me to speak at home, yet still have my accent. I speak four languages which are English, French, creole, and a little bit of Spanish. I do a lot of things such as dance, photography, videography, painting, and carpeting, I will elaborate on each of these things on how they came about to where I am now.

When I use to live in Haiti I used to carve woods and make something out of them like chairs, little wooden statues, couches, etc. then I would paint them. That’s all me and my brother was good at doing which was carpenting and now back home all the chairs we have was made by us. Then when I came to Miami I started to get into dancing carried it until college then became a dance teacher that was my first job. Throughout dancing and recording myself and making dance videos I developed the skills of videography and through videography I fell in love with photography and started taking photography seriously when I first started college. I remember my very first paid photo shoot, it felt like it was the best day of my life, doing something I love and making money from it as a bonus, felt like I was living “the life”. My client loved the pictures, I was mostly great in portraits then grew from there. Then I made my first website then the excitement got even bigger and bigger and started improving more and more. On my down days, or my slow days where I feel like giving up on photography because of the thought that no one would recognize my work I would go back on my website and see how amazing my website is and how amazing my pictures were. I kept sharing and sharing and sharing from there my page grew, more people was recognizing my work through Instagram. Every day I would do shoots whether it’s paid or unpaid I fell in love with photography. The best part about photography is that I get to live in different emotions and the feeling of others, one shot could tell a person’s whole story and that’s the gift in photography. Until today I carry it with me building my clients improving and getting better every single day. That’s how I became a photographer and brought me to where I am today.

Has it been a smooth road?
It has not been a smooth road because learning the basics of photography by myself and the help from searching YouTube, was not easy. Especially learning manual because it is a big difference with knowing manual and learning how to use manual in any situations. Because of those obstacles that I’ve faced and mistakes that I’ve made. There are situations that I face because of my knowledge in photography those situations are never a problem. I call it “using something to make something”.

For example when I first started every time the weather looked horrible or it rained I used to have to reschedule now I always tell my clients the rain won’t stop us we will make something with it and my pictures always comes out epic using that type of mindset and it took my creativity and just knowing how to use manual, to make the pictures come out exactly how I want them to come out. I am still learning no matter how much things I know about photography there is always a lot more to learn.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the JFLOWPIX story. Tell us more about the business.
I do photography, art photography videography, retouching, editing and image manipulation.

I am known mostly for art photography creating art portrait everything I do in photography I put art into it because that’s what it’s all about its appreciating the art of a person’s body of a person’s face poses and etc.

I am proud of my work and how I am improving more and more, how my pictures looks better today than before and appreciating my work and other peoples work

How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
In the next 5-10 years I see myself traveling to different places like Thailand, Dubai, France, and Europe capturing pictures of different people and experiencing different cultures and freezing those memorable moments. From traveling hopefully I get big shifts with my client’s growth, doing photo shoots in different countries.
