Meet Jennifer Frank of Wyndsor Farm in Lake Worth

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jennifer Frank.

Jennifer, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
My mother was a single mom of three children. We didn’t have much money. At one point, we lived in the basement of my grandmothers house. But, I always had a love for animals, especially horses. I would often sneak stray cats and dogs into the house and keep them hidden from my mother. I started working at a horse farm when I was 13 years old. I was determined to do anything I had to do to be around horses. I would wake up at 4:30 AM to go clean stalls before school and often times ride my bike the 3 miles to and from the barn after school just to scrub water buckets and clean tack. I didn’t care. I was happy. I could watch the horses, cats, dogs, etc. and just be in the presence of all the beautiful creatures. I loves animals so much that, I became a vegetarian at the age of 8. Eventually, my mother remarried and we finally had a little money to get me proper riding lessons. My mother also loves horses and my obsession with horses and animals only grows stronger as time passes. So, we decided to build a farm and start a business. This finally provided me with the opportunity to really rescue some animals. This is my passion. I want to save them all!

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Money was a huge struggle to start. Also, when you are rescuing animals, it’s sometimes difficult to introduce new members into the farm. For example, my latest rescue, Thor, a little piggy mutt, scared all of my horses. They were all terrified of him! I’ve also had issues with dogs that don’t get along. It’s hard to balance all of the energies (people and animals) on the farm. Help is also, always a struggle. We can’t pay much and it is often a thankless, very physically demanding job. Hard to find and keep good help!

We’d love to hear more about your business.
My mother and I have a private farm. We specialize in hunter and jumper show horses. But, what I am most proud of is the fact that, I use the farm as an outlet to save other animals. As I mentioned, I have a rescue pig. I have a dog that I rescued from South Korea and I have a dog I picked up off the side of the road. Throughout the years, I have saved countless horses, dogs, cats (I bottle fed 2 litters of abandoned kittens), we even rescued a bird. My love for animals is endless!

What were you like growing up?
All I cared about was animals. I was the kid who asked for a pony for Christmas every year. Like I mentioned, I worked very hard at a very young age just to be around animals.
