Meet Jeff Meredith of Sailing Adventures Miami

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jeff Meredith.

Jeff, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I built my first sailboat when I was 12 out of old paint buckets, used lumber and my bed sheets for a sail. I dragged my new vessel with help of a wagon and skateboard to a nearby apartment complex and launched it in the decorative pond. It sank, I swam back being chased by angry swans as my friends watched and laughed.

Even though my first sail wasn’t as successful as I hoped I was hooked on sailing. Years later I found myself looking for a new adventure. I purchased an older 30ft Hunter sailboat and sailed the Great Lakes. Years later I chartered a boat in Charlotte Harbor and sailed for a week island to island upon returning to Michigan where winter was still taking place I decided to rent out my house, sell all my furniture and everything else that wouldn’t fit on my 35ft boat and live on my boat in Miami while selling the same products I was accustom to at home.

After 6 years of working and driving in Miami traffic (800 miles a week) I decided to try my hand at getting paid to sail and started Sailing Adventures Miami. My business was very slow at first until I fired my marketing company and started learning about Google Ad Word and other forms of getting myself out there. I recently sold my 35ft Hunter and bought a 2007 Beneteau 40 with room for up to 10 people in the cockpit, 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.

I specialize in private tours of Biscayne Bay 2hr, 4hr and a full day. My most requested tour is the Sunset trip. Dinner is available for up to 6 if needed. I try very hard to make sure all the guest have a good time by including champagne, a cheese and cracker plate and making sure that if they need anything for a special occasion that I have it on the boat for them.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Learning to market my business has been the biggest challenge.
