Meet Jazmin Griffith in Brickell

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jazmin Griffith.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Jazmin. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
Whewwww… how did I get started? It’s an interesting story, to say the least. When graduating college if you would have told me I would be a Social Media Strategist, living in Miami, five years later, I would have looked at you and said no way! The demand for it now was pretty much non-existent five years ago.

I got started by being a Social Media intern for The Dalton Agency in Atlanta. Here is where I learned the basics, the do’s and don’t, what creativity means, how storytelling becomes real for brands on social. Here is where I realized what I wanted to do for the rest of my life. From then on, I’ve had the opportunity to work with some great companies and big names from all industries. From Porsche, The Fresh Market, Maserati, Mazda and Chevron, I’ve been blessed to say I’ve been versed in all areas as it pertains to social media and digital. My last contract in Atlanta ended and I was at a standstill and where I wanted to go next, I didn’t just want another job, another contract. I wanted my next step to have meaning and purpose and Miami was it. I applied, I got it and relocated just like that in a matter of two weeks and haven’t really looked back since!

Since moving to Miami, I’ve been able to tap into a different side of marketing, tap into new challenges, new learning experiences and grow my career furthermore. Understand the value of multicultural within this space. Honestly, I just did it! No hesitation, No double backing, or second-guessing, I knew that if I wanted to excel, Miami was my next stop, and now, I’m here.

I would be lying if I said it sounds as easy as I put it because it wasn’t. I’ve been fired, hired, clients running out of budget, was even a leasing agent at one point in time. Even after everyone telling me, maybe I should go into another career path, I stayed true to my passion and what I wanted to do. I studied, kept up with trends, attended conferences, built an online portfolio, anything to set me apart from the competition and to let anyone know, I’m Jazmin and I do social media. When you think of social, you think of me! Five years from now, I can see myself still doing this, but as a Director level and that’s what this move was all about for me.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Smooth Road?? Is anything in life a smooth road? It’s like when things are always going so good, you know something is coming to challenge you because you’re ultimately just comfortable in your current space.
One thing about being in the social media space, it’s a lot of contract work before getting officially hired on. It’s almost like companies wanna test you for 90 days and return you after they’re done. That’s been a lot of my challenges, never having a “home” in a sense as it pertains to work. Yeah, I got a chance to work with the big names, in the cool offices with all the perks but it was always temporary, never permanent. For me, I took this as a learning lesson, “comfort kills growth.” I was never comfortable with a role because it could all end tomorrow just like that. It also allowed me to grow my skill set, quicker and faster because I tapped into so many projects in such a short amount of time that my price went up in a sense. I’m a big believer that everything happens for a reason, every contract and role that I’ve had as allowed me to here today!

Please tell us more about your work, what you are currently focused on and most proud of.
So, I’m a Social Media Strategist for an agency here in Miami. I help develop strategies specifically for the US Hispanic market for brands. For example, a brand will come to us and say we have a strong presence among US Hispanics, how can we speak to them directly on social? I work with a team and help develop strategies around creative, content, targeting and produce certain campaigns to meet this objective. It’s actually pretty cool because I get to see my work everywhere from social, TV, big events, billboards, etc.

The cool thing about me is as stated before I’m well versed in all areas of society. I am a copywriter, I can create content, give creative recommendations, analyze results, understand multiple industries and can target the multicultural audience. Every new position I’ve held, I’ve made a point to always learn something new I can take with me in the future.

What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
A proud moment in my career has been moving to Miami 100%. Back home, I felt like I hit a wall and moving was like my only hope to get out of my comfort zone. This last year that I have been here had taught me so much and I’ve honestly grown mentally, physically, and spiritually more than ever. I’ve been able to challenge myself in ways with my career in ways unimaginable. It’s a path that I recommend anyone to try at least once in their life. Take that leap of faith and jump, I promise something will be there to catch you!
