Today we’d like to introduce you to Jason Baker and Johnny Pack.
It’s hard to summarize a story with so many layers. They met because they both finally got the start in the industry that they’ve always wanted as full-time producers, but it just so happened to be at the same place at the same time. Their independent journeys before they met is actually what makes their story so unique. Johnny grew up in Gettysburg, PA and after High School got accepted to The New School For Liberal Arts in NYC and graduated with a B.A. in Culture & Media Studies.
For 3 ½ years, he lived in Brooklyn and worked as Event Manager for the Sunshine Cinema in the Lower East Side of Manhattan doing Red Carpet Film Premieres. Constantly networking with the actors and directors in the industry that he so badly wanted to be a part of, his life seemed to be going in the perfect direction, but sometimes things can fall apart in an instant. It just so happened to be in the form of his beloved Brooklyn apartment that he worked so hard for, collapsing and destroying his entire living space. Because of the circumstances, he ended up moving into his parent’s home in South Florida to get back on his feet. Hungry and eager to get back to his roots, he applied for a Video Editing position in Delray Beach. That is where he met Jason and the rest is history.
Jason was born and raised in South Florida. Working in many different fields throughout the years, he struggled to find a career path in which he was truly passionate about. One day, he was invited to a music video shoot by a friend who was a music artist. At the shoot, he was blown away by how the video was produced by a one-man crew (Adam Rush) with a handheld DSLR camera. While helping on the set he asked questions about equipment and how to get started in the industry.
After seeing the completed video he was completely amazed on top of the fact that the video was runner-up in MTvU’s Freshman of the week contest. The following week he purchased his first laptop, downloaded a free version of movie maker and completely immersed himself in his craft. After five years of work as an artist, he got his first opportunity as a full-time video editor, where shortly after he met Johnny.
Immediately when they started working together, a true friendship and unbelievably creative and inspired continuity was building with every project they finished. That’s when they decided they had put up with enough and it was time to start their own production company and do things the right way. They knew from everything they had been through in this industry, they had more than enough experience to take on any challenge that presented itself. That’s where Sceneclipse Productions was born.
“A COLLABORATION OF INFINITE PERSPECTIVE.”
Has it been a smooth road?
Struggle has definitely been a big part of our journey even before Sceneclipse. Although we’ve had our struggles we always find a way to turn it into a learning experience. Many times projects can throw unexpected obstacles that we may not have been ready for, but necessity is the master of ingenuity as we always say. This industry seems to be a constant flow of ups and downs, but as times goes on we’re learning to find that consistent balance a business needs to show progress.
The beginning was probably our biggest test. We just kind of dove in head first and figured things out as we went. Knowing nothing about starting an LLC or anything like that, we had our work cut out for us. After the bumpy road of getting things official, building our website, getting business cards etc. we found ourselves constantly underbidding jobs. We were taking on a much too negotiable approach and not sticking to what we knew our work was worth, which made our goals seem almost impossible to reach. One of the most important things we’ve learned is that sometimes you just have to say no to a bad deal. It’s extremely discouraging to feel underpaid for your work, so it’s been a real learning experience, especially as businessmen.
Another obstacle has been learning the foreign language of marketing and SEO. Having the skill and the know-how can go completely unnoticed without proper exposure. We’re sure that this article will be a great step in the right direction, making our past struggles feel all the more worthwhile. It definitely won’t be the last of our struggles, but we’ll try to stay balanced with our feet on the ground and our heads in the clouds!
So, as you know, we’re impressed with Sceneclipse Productions – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
Sceneclipse Productions specializes in Video Production from top to bottom as well as Photography, Graphic Design, Creative Writing, Audio Mastering, Voice Overs, Professional Photo Editing, and more. We are most proud of being who we are and not trying to take on a corporate mold and persona just to make a sale. It’s important for us to be ourselves and to stand out as artists in this industry, rather than becoming another “dime a dozen” media company. What sets us apart is our goal of having a great reputation and that we genuinely care about our clients! We have worked for too many companies that over promise and under deliver! We are both extremely meticulous and detail oriented, so we always put all of our talents into every project that we are a part of. We also like to keep a direct line of communication with our clients throughout the project, so we can understand their expectations and then exceed them.
Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
We love the melting pot that is South Florida and the city of Miami. From the culture, the diversity, the food, the art, and the beaches, to the back graffitied streets of Wynwood. Being that Jason is from South Florida he is also a huge Miami Heat and Dolphin’s fan. Miami seems to represent the whole “dream big” mentality and that mindset is what keeps us motivated. Other than the crazy traffic and the extreme heat and humidity, life is pretty good down here. Like Tony Montana said, “This is paradise. I’m tellin’ ya!”
