Meet She-J Hercules

Today we’d like to introduce you to She-J Hercules.

She-J Hercules, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Basically, I always loved music all of my life. I grew up listening to a plethora of genres as a kid. And in my teen years, I became curious about Doing and how to mix music. So I started at home, doing small family house parties and gatherings so that by the time I was ready to go off to college (FAU), I was ready to learn more about djing. So it was my freshmen year that I met another DJ named DJ Thunder and he basically showed me the ropes. And right away, I fell in love with the art of doing and music. I worked for our college campus radio station Owl Radio and then shortly after, in my sophomore year, I landed an internship at 99 Jamz. My mom has always been in the advertising business, so basically one of her sales reps that worked at Cox Media Group – 99 Jamz told her to bring me into the station one day and I always tell people I pretty much went and never left. So I literally been with them since the age of 19 years old until now.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
For the most part, it has been smooth, but definitely, there are always bumps along the way. I think as I started off people were shocked and not used to a female DJ. I believe sometimes they look down on female DJs or think that we aren’t as good as a male DJ. Or basically, if we don’t have a look (meaning short dress, high heels, sex appeal) as a female DJ, they wouldn’t want to hire you. Those could be some of the downfalls. But on the other hand, you get people that love the idea of a female DJ, and we tend to get that opportunity to demand respect and break trends of having a female do something that is just as great or even better in a male-dominated world.

We’d love to hear more about your work.
I specialize in turning peoples parties up, giving my clients a whole experience. When I go out or set foot in the radio station, I am giving it my all. People have always said I am know for how passionate I am about music and making people happy, so that would definitely be my gift and sets me apart from others. I care about making people happy and care about the music. I’m also proud and humbled to be the first and only female DJ on 99 Jamz and furthermore in South Florida because there are female radio jocks/personalities, but not many know how to do both. Therefore, I am proud that I have come so far to be the first and only female DJ and radio personality with my own show on 99 Jamz.

Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
#1 – Be Humble – I wouldn’t be where I am today if I wasn’t grateful for the many opportunities that I have been able to receive. The more humble you are, the more blessings you will receive and this has been my slogan since I started djing.

#2 – Ambition – I had t be ambitious to get this far and follow my dream. So I believe if we fight for what we want in life, we will be blessed with opportunity. Nothing comes easy. You got to go get it!
